Thank you Tim! I have a couple of boxes of old Kaywoodie pipes that have that problem and I keep pondering on what to do about it! Some of the ideas I've came up with were going to be far more work than what you just taught me. I will buy you lunch some day if I ever get the pleasure of meeting you! Tom

@@brianquilty687 You are right about the heat gun. I really don’t know but I get some that way. Thank you for watching.
@PreacherT52 ай бұрын
Hey everyone, so fastest and smoothest way I found(after doing over 30 of these stems)is to have a hot plate or use your stove and but a cast iron plate, touch the tip of the tennon against the plate and let it heat up, do not push inwards. After 30 seconds to a min put in your pipe and twist to align. Let cool in pipe. If the pipe stem is jumping when twisting as if it feels like teeth slow it. It is not hot enough. Should rotate smoothly when hot for precise fitment. This method prevents heating up any part of the exterior stem and limits the risk of melting marks or poor fitment. Hope this helps!
@PreacherT52 ай бұрын
Should have added that this also heats up the tennon evenly and the internal portion of the stem. Using a heat gun will sometimes heat the stem unevenly as well. Using the methods i mentioned will not scorch or damage your tennon in any way. Ive tested this with over 8 different brands so you should be good and have beautiful old pipes looking mew
