Bro! Thank you for this!!! My FC has a bad 5v regulator so I was running my camera off of my VTX, and the OSD was sketchy. Moved just the ground wire for the cam, back to the FC, and BOOM... No more sketchy OSD. Thank you!

I've tried wiring up my TS5823 and micro minimosd and PZ0420M on a 250 quad with a Naze32 Rev5 the way you recommend with all grounds going back to the PDB, and I got OSD display, but black screen (no video). I had to run the camera ground to the OSD, and the OSD ground to the PDB, and then it all worked. I'm powering the OSD off of spare motor pins on the FC, and powering the cam and VTX from the PDB (battery voltage, because I sometimes run 3S as well as 4S).

I do wire from gnd to cam. And have never used gnd pads for video signal wires. However I've still had OSD flicker. Here's what always solves it for me. On micro minim I attach an extra small 220uF 10v cap to the gnd/5v pads. On omnibus I attach the same capacitor to an open gnd/5v pad on the FC. Some FCs though you also need the 470uF 35v cap you've shown before in addition to the smaller one. NOT for flight issues, but for smoother power going to 5v. I found a 6x5mm 220uF 10v cap on amazon. tiny.

hmm so i'm power my camera and vtx from my PDB... I am not using the 5v out on the vtx for anything, so I didn't bother connecting that ground anywhere... I wonder if running that ground would magically fix my issue?
@leohobbleohobb37816 жыл бұрын
I think you can connect a small electrolytic capasitor over pluss and minus on the camera powerlines.it should solve the issue also
@rott4207 жыл бұрын
Can you maybe do a video on fixing video interference issues? I've got 2 recent builds with issues, one has severe lines and blacks out with snap flips and rolls and aggressive turns, and another build browns out the cam and possibly the vtx completely when I throttle up past 50% so it is not even flyable. I realize this is some sort of electrical issue, do I add more caps? Do I use an LC filter? I've built 6 quads on the same basic pdb/cam/vtx/esc....and only have changed frames and motors between the 6, and only my last 2 have issues....it's fairly frustrating!

What happened to your Strix Ochi fpv camera review bro? I was just about to ask a question on how you specifically wired it to the Omnibus to get the translucent osd to appear?

Hi JC, Having this same issue with the betaflight F3 board. Since the FC has a built-in PDB what can I do. I use a 1000uf low-esr cap on the main leads and power the camera from the VTX. The camera is a Foxeer. Any thoughts?

What version of bf are you running on your awk210 with omnibus f4? I've got an omnibus f4 on my awk 210. I'm getting the spin of death on mine. I had it on 3.1.5 then I dropped it to 3.1.1. I have a RTFQuads 4 in 1 infantry 30a dshot esc. When I input abrupt roll or pitch inputs it freaks out drops to the ground then I get a reboot sound from the esc's. I just updated my esc's also. I updated my esc to latest version 16.65 My next move will be to keep dropping bf versions until this stops.

+Project Blue Falcon Different subject but, what about ESC ground wires? An increasing number of PDBs (with signal pads) and FCs seem to expect only the signal wires from ESCs to be connected. Would you say it is safe to ignore/remove the ground wires from the ESCs, or connected them to some ground pad in the PDB (or FC)? Thanks!
@ProjectBlueFalcon8 жыл бұрын
It's best to keep the ground wire. Joshua Bardwell did a good video on it. I've always soldered the small and large ground wires from the ESC to the same pad on the PDB. Before soldering I wrap the small wire around the large one two or three times, that helps it from being pulled out in crashes.
@victorfonte8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice, Jc. Somehow I missed Joshua's video on that subject but I'll certainly check it out as well: thanks for the heads up! BTW, for my level of knowledge on this hobby, both of you are running the most interesting and helpful channels on KZbin. It's amazing how you guys are actually making life so much easier to the whole spectrum of RC hobbyists like myself. Really appreciate your time and effort here, Jc!

In general I like the Runcam Swift. It's not the best, not the worst, but its great for the price. Unless its a camera for my AWK210 and Hellbender frames, I just now started using the Strix Ochi because its made specifically for the camera mount on those frames.
@victorfonte8 жыл бұрын
+Project Blue Falcon Just watched Joshua's video -- thanks for the hint --, and read most of the (very long) comment thread. This is a very debatable subject, to say the least. Joshua's advice seems to be a bit different from yours, though. It seems he is suggesting to always establish the shortest possible ground connection between the FC and the ESCs -- avoiding vregs, etc --, and to make sure the signal and ground wires are twisted (for better shielding). I'm baffled by so many people arguing against using ground wires to avoid loops, as well. Also read a very interesting comment (from Ozzy3333333) that made me think that the main culprit (for signal corruption) could actually be the quality and gage of the power wires going to the ESC. If he is right -- Joshua seems to agree with that possibility --, then maybe we should simply use adequate power wires, and no ground signal wire should be needed. A lot of experimenting ahead, for sure! ;-)

LOL, I was just working on this issue....I thought after watching you video I was going to have to redo it... Lucky me I was already doing it the way you recommend. I am get lots of lines at above 50% throttle. So I am installing a capacitor
@ProjectBlueFalcon8 жыл бұрын
Capacitors do help, but if it still doesn't go away then you may need an actually LC filter, which is a capacitor and inductor in one.

I fixed my flickering on throttle up with a 470uF cap right on the +/- on the micro minimosd. Unfortunately this didn't fix the video feed going completely black mid-flight. I might just have a defective board.

would this solve flickering of the camera? I have a cricket vtx and a run cam swift. and I get some flickering on my awk 210
@ryantodd828 жыл бұрын
I primarily run omnibus flight controllers as well. I get perfect video & OSD by sending vbat through an LC filter straight to the RAM pin (next to vbat pin) This passes filtered power through the board and out to vtx & camera. This way allows you to run power, ground & video wires from video in & video out to the board which keeps everything super clean in appearance and performance. This does require good CCD cam and VTX with a wide voltage range
@jsinfpv57838 жыл бұрын
ryan todd I tried this and the controller got extremely hot, so be careful!
@ryantodd828 жыл бұрын
Good to know, I'll keep an eye on that. Through trial and error I've fried 2 omnibus F3 boards over the last year but my original omnibus F4 (v1) has been setup like this pretty much since they were released. Was the board you're referring to an F3 or an F4? I'm convinced there's a big difference in durability
@jsinfpv57838 жыл бұрын
+ryan todd F3 knockoff from banggood, great board, love it for its capabilities but I only power receiver off of it. Everything else I power off of mate micro pdb, you have too watch them too. They are fairly consistent but I have had a few that put out slightly less than the 5v and 12v it's supposed to.

Lol, autocorrect always trying to sensor us... Yes they do! On some builds I'll use a standalone adjustable regulator set around 9v to power my FPV system. I rarely use a PDB W/ built-in regulators for that very reason.
