Fairly new 4K FS, all my installed apps on USB. Had 3gb internal free, now 4.25 free. I never use installed apps but I did keep Appstore. I froze updates, a bit late to save launcher though. I use the Debloater tool also. More good work TDUK. This stick should rock now.

@TechDoctorUK @Dash Riprock I took down both shopping apps, photos, news, Freetime, music, Prime. Note - leave the FireTV player for IMDb - still plays when slimmed down. Some headline promos no longer play from the stock launcher home screen until you tell it to use KFTVlauncher always (try one time first). Based on the frozen system apks bueller and several more should be candidates but unless removal can help on the free RAM issue I’m happy with what I have already got. Did same on Stick and Cube. The stick has the least RAM.

No, you do not want to do this. In fact I have been blocking updates by command line for quite awhile. But every 3 or 4 months I will enable in the command line & allow all updates then block again, re-uninstall, re-debloat then lastly re-freeze with IceBox. Sounds difficult & takes a lot of time but it does not when you have a UGreen USB Hub & a bluetooth computer mouse & dongle. Everything as in all programs on my Sticks are contained on a usb drive attached to the UGreen hub then attached to the Stick. Stick itself has zero programs on it & cache space is 3.5 GB on all except those which are on a Prime Account watching Prime Video. Those are around 3 GB.

TDUK this works a treat and if you have a mouse toggle for fire tv you can get rid of alot of unnecessary things and because of this I have 4.65 GB of 5.94 GB available. But because of update blocker not working all the apps that I don't want come back in a day or 2 so I have to get rid of them all again. It would be brilliant if you could find something permanent and that the user is in control and not amazon. Keep up the good fight TDUK blessings to you and yours.

No, version 3 will undoubtedly include thr ability to freeze screensaver then you can de-install up to the base using esexplorer. After doing that freeze screensaver either with Ice Box or write into the ADB command line pm disable-user com.amazon.ftv.screensaver This is the correct command.

I'm going to go out on a limb now and suggest that while I agree that Amazon installs updates that break our mods, there are also updates that provide added value to the app and/or take care of bugs in the app. Do you, TechDoc, have access to the updates so you can screen them and help us keep our 4k sticks working the best they can? I am an enthusiastic TDUK Club member and I thank you for all of your work. but I have no clue what will be the end result of blocking all updates. I trust that you know what each update does

I have blocked updates for quite awhile but every 3 or 4 months unblock & allow the sticks to update. After that I re-block, re-uninstall using ES Explorer, Re-debloat then Re-freeze the rest using IceBox in that exact order. Takes maybe 15 minutes outside of the update which can take over an hour.

The next update will probably bring it back which is why i recommend stopping the update process. Even once you device is updated to the latest fireOS version (6.2.7.3 or newer), we can then stop the device updating and again remove the IMDB/app updates

I would be exceedingly interested in the 2nd truck also. I have previously blocked updating except as desired which for me is 3 months using the command line in ADB but an curious as to what I have missed. Learned 1 thing years ago, there is always another way if you just look for it.

@@JFrenchRennier It's nothing special, basically when you install a 3rd party apk, so say Cinema HD (not modded) it will update time to time. So when you update it the app downloads an apk installation file and you update from that. It gets saved to your downloads folder. Eventually it will build up full of apk installation files in your download folder for every app you update. You can delete them by putting a file explorer on your stick and deleting them. There's an app though that hardly takes up any memory and once you download and install the update it will delete the installation file for you so you don't have to keep a file explorer on your device, which uses more memory than the app that deletes. Hope it makes sense. If you're interested message me back here and I'll help

TDoc, In case you haven't discovered this yet... You can also delete APK files that take up space on your firestick using ES File Explorer. From the main screen click on APP. Click on USER APPS at top of page. Click ALL APPS from the drop down menu. You'll see the APK files. Select each one and click DELETE at the bottom of screen. They'll be moved to the Recycle Bin so you'll have to navigate to the Recycle Bin, select the files once again and delete them for good.

Yes but just storage for movies & not active storage. Involves a great amount of effort & using a computer to set it up. So much trouble that I gave away 4 of them to grandkids. I am able to make a gen 3 square shape function like a 4K & have done it to 2 of them adding both active usb storage drives & Debloating both. The technique is similar to the 4K but not identical.

Having EXTREME trouble with DEFAULT Theme contrasts for mouse or remote. Tried to get the DARK Theme (or DAWN Theme) - Finally downloaded both Themes, but neither would open after being installed. This was one of the main reasons I stopped using this app & started using X-plore. Some oddities noticed with this mod-lite version: 1) takes longer than most apps to install, 2) no icon appears in Recent or All Apps (unless I use the Wolf Launcher!?) - It is listed when yo go to Settings -> Apps -> Manage. Adrian Kemp - The modded version on TDUK’s Tutorial/Downlods web page works fine with my FireCube, but not with my 4K FireStick. The FC is hooked to a Panasonic Plasma. The 4K FSs are hooked to Visio & LG LEDs. I’ve tried jacking around with the TV settings with minimal success, but would require readjusting it for regular TV viewing

DragRacerX I set the resolution in FireOS per recommendations for the raster speed of 59Hz 1080p per Mouse Toggle bug. A dark theme ES Explorer mod on the stick hooked up to a Dell LED monitor capable of 1080p works fine. My Cube is on a 42” 1080p Toshiba LCD but the light theme mod ES Explorer I got for the large file NTFS hard-drive hookup from TechDoctorUK does this function really well.

I have blocked updating for quite a while myself. Prior to Ice Box & the Debloat tools, I would write the command line by hand until I finally added a USB hub & a computer mouse with Bluetooth dongle. Makes it so very easy & fast using the right button. I have 5 sticks, son has 4, brother has 6, assorted friends with over 20 & I keep them all up to date or have taught them. Generally run between 47 & 55 blocked apps & processes depending upon Prime Video subscription or wanting to watch live TV or IMDB. Prime has 5 separate processes itself.

Thanks for your work on this problem! I used this process and the update blocker and I am at 1.25 GB free but the critical message error keeps coming back. Did that message come up on that stick in the video either before or after your fix? I have two Firestick one's that work perfectly fine still on 300-500 MB free ! No warnings of any kind. This OS should be able to do at least the same. BTW my 4K worked fine for about 4 mos. with 730 MB free or so. Then the update shortly before this latest update Dec. 8 20 (6.2.7.7/3025) is when the critical memory error - clear up 500 MB or ELSE message started. Wish I could've stopped that update because I feel like they broke the memory manager. There's a ton of people online that have this exact problem with 2 GB free and haven't even downloaded Downloader! Please ask your tech friend whats going on. Could there be some kind of malware out there? They should have left the extra 1 GB out if they're not intending to let you use it. Thanks again!

Sorry but no, it is still lingering in the background. To find it click on App at the top when the scroll box opens click on System Apps. Scroll down & you will see it. Click it open & its size is now 1.74 MB. Frozen uninstalled App which remains the largest in size is Prime Video. It will only reduce to 29.36 MB.

Denny Hiett If Ola 10 will not update from Ola 9, perhaps you can get a good apk for Ola 10 from FileLinked by FireTVSticks. You need the Kshaw player 1.0.5 (only) as well. Kshaw provides Favorites functions to make Ola usable IMO and can import links directly. You can see how it is done in my comment in kzbin.info/www/bejne/omGUh5KEh6ume7c It was not my solution - I found it elsewhere on KZbin.

@@ade531001gmail yeah we finally got ola 10 update July 27, been working flawlessly until yesterday which update caused a parsing error. Fortunately the channels saved as favorites in kshaw still work. Usually ola tv doesn't last long then have to wait months for developers to get up and running again since it is such a large app. Thankfully it has a new media player, kshaw, which allows you to save favorites.
