You have confidence and it shows. Speed on your TV is phenomenal and you explained it as to why. So, I will do the same. I have a 2Tb HDD and all the do-dahs. You showed it how and why of it - with no room for any doubts Now what is not good about you: You say this is an advanced video; granted. But you go into explanation like newbies are watching. You may have covered this, but what about video files that exceed 4G...? Have you interfaced your later hookups to allow the use of NTFS-formatted external drives that are not restricted to that file size limit...? Unless I'm misunderstanding, aren't high quality LONG videos too large to be compatible with the demo drive's format suggested in this video...?

You really should look into an android box if this is a concern to you. There are many limitations on the firestick for expansion. This is only for some people. Many android boxes are fully loaded with record direct to the box with plenty of storage and no limitations. If you want to know more about the best ones, let me know. Zero chance I would use an IPTV and tivimate without a VPN. I get too many emails and messages from people that have gotten in trouble because their IP address was associated with illegal streaming or downloading. The whole idea of tivimate is to record from the IPTV. It will be a red flag. spend the money and be safe. I got about 20 emails just last month from people upset and worried. I always try and educate on this. This is the one I have expressvpn.com/curiositycafe - one of the few that has streaming speed servers.

I tried adding a 32G USB flash drive (FAT32) with the OTG adapter. I was already using the Amazon ethernet adapter. Hookup straight forward as per video. I know the USB is getting power as it flashes red when plugged into the OTG. Everything I try cannot get Fire TV to recognize the USB (Storage setting) or see the storage in ES File Manager (only internal storage of Firestick). Did I miss a setting somewhere?

I was not able to get this to work with any network wired connection - both the OTG adapter and the OTG cable listed above would not pass through the network data from the ethernet adapter. I tried the following setup - 2018 Firestick 4K - 128gb Samsung usb stick - Amazon ethernet adapter - OTG adapter - no wired network connection. Also tried the same setup with a Cable Matters gigabit ethernet adapter instead of the Amazon ethernet adapter - no wired connection. Tried both setups with the OTG cable instead of the OTG adapter - no wired network connection. Both the OTG adapter and cable work fine with a wi-fi connection. I enjoy the CC videos - very informatiive - but I had issues with this one. All potential solutions appreciated.

Jim, stay tuned. For some reason some drives draw too much power to pass through ethernet and some otg adapters aren't working for pass through either. I have another solution for everything that I think will work with 100% instead of 80% of the people. Will have a video likely this coming week.

Yep got one of those, was the first thing I looked into... Indispensable for Firestick. Got an old 1tb hard drive plugged in, a flash drive and a game controller. I'm a big fan of SBCs but you can save yourself hassle installing these and get a Firestick 4k, a on sale it cannot be beaten.

Thanks for sharing this video. I did want you to know that I followed your instructions exactly to add storage and an ethernet connection. I opted for the cable instead of the OTG adapter and a thumb drive instead of the 2tb drive. But it will not work on my Fire TV stick 4k after several attempts. In this configuration shown in the video my thumb drive works but the ethernet is not recognized and the stick only connects via Wi-Fi. To troubleshoot I did remove everything and only connected the ethernet adapter to the fire stick and only then does it recognize the ethernet connection. Have you by chance tried setting this up using the cable??

For your situation you need to use a USB hub. Powered preferably. We have a more updated video showing how to do this including links to what devices you will need and the process. it was posted after this video (called turn your firestick into a mega beast). Since amazon did an update after doing this video, you need the hub to use both ethernet and hard drive. That's why we did that video for you.

Hi - I did what the instruction say. The issue I have is that firestick cannot reconized both. It's only recognizing either the ethernet connection or the external storage. The only configuration set up that is different is that my Firsetsick 4K is inserted thru the Denon Receiver not to the tv. Any suggestions?

That has to do with a faulty hub. I had a couple that was like that also. The newer firesticks don't have the issues like this. But if you got a different but (one that is powered), you won't have this issue. The drive it taking too much power and the hub can't handle it.

Some built in apps are tricky to move. It's a process. You shouldn't have to though. Plenty of space if you keep 3rd party apps on the usb

So, I ordered the OTG adapter (2pack) on Saturday. Amazon delivered today because I selected the funky delivery option. Got a USB card reader so I could use my SD micro cards that are sitting around like teenagers. Hooked up as shown, using the card reader with 64GB SD micro and nothing. No notification of external device added, just nothing. Diving into my parts adapter pack, I checked out the card reader on the PC, it was fine. Unfortunately neither of the OTG Adapters appeared to work on the Firestick or the Laptop (Via USB Mini to 'A' adapter). Amazon was great and I'm returning the non-operative parts to the UPS store tomorrow. So, should I just go looking for a OTG cable instead or re-try the adapter? And yes, I did order the correct part as listed above. You guidance is sought.

Sounds like a format issue. Firestick can only read fat32. Did you try for closing es file, then restarting the firestick? Should prompt you to reformat to proper format unless that drive simply isn’t compatible

Yes, it's done once connected to your firestick. It will prompt you the first time you do it and you can do it right on your stick. If it doesn't, restart the device... still nothing? then it's not compatible with your device. Did you get the seagate slim?

There are many reasons. One of the issues with a firestick is the lack of storage for additional apps which causes major slowdown. Some apps/games/movie streaming apps take up a lot of space. Also many people use a DVR app to record live tv which is a huge benefit of a firestick. you can't do it without external drive. No reason to pay for cable anymore if you have a firestick

Question as in most bought drives comes formatted to NTFS format can the firestick see that for format? Does the drive needs to be formatted to ExFat or Fat32 using Partitioning Software that can format the whole of the 2TB in those format. Fire TV only supports USB drives formatted with a FAT32 file system. NTFS, exFAT, HFS, ext#, and other file systems are not supported. If you insert a USB drive with a file system other than FAT32, the Fire TV will ask if you'd like to format the drive. And you did not show us that part in this video. So you can't just buy & plug & play.

The newer model for the 2TB external drive is a Seagate. I looked at the user manual and it said it was not recommended for Fat32. Apparently it can be made that way. It also said that the max file size can only be 32G. How will these limitations affect fire stick use or are they not an issue at all ? Thanks for the educational video's

Probably not 8TB. Largest I've gotten to work is 2TB and not all work because of the power draw. You will get a power loop which will damage the firestick.

Since the update, my firestick isn't working with the 2TB Seagate. I had your complete setup running strong for about 5 months, but now it loads for around 10 seconds and then just starts going into reboot mode. If I remove the external hard drive, it's all good, so the firestick works fine. What do you recommend to it get back up and running again? Do you think it's the OTG cable or the OTG adapter? For power, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy AC adapter. The Amazon power adapter was never strong enough to run this setup. Thanks in advance!

It's definitely a power draw issue. I would have to tinker with it myself to see why the update changed it. It didn't on our sticks. Had you tried a different drive? Just curious what you've done

Hi I have a couple of questions. 1 When I go to developer page and the second option it shows a list of apps installed and I have to pick each individual one and turn option "ON" 2 when I download file with downloader program mine {link yours] skips through the option to delete the downloaded file. I think the files are saved on my 5.5 gig internal storage. Where can I find the downloaded files. Thanks

If you have the 4K max, it's automatic. If you have an older stick, you have to do it manually: that was the new upgrade in the new sticks

I also bought a 2 TB Seagate portable drive but my Firestick 4K does not see the drive. I even tried reformatting the drive to exFAT but no luck. Any suggestion for me to try?

Did you buy the Slim drive we show in the video? Most drives take up too much power and you will need a powered hub. That's why we show the specific drive that works. Your firestick will automatically prompt you to format it so you don't have to do anything special. If it didn't prompt you, then the drive is drawing too much power and won't be recognized. @@CuriosityCafe 1st, after some tinkering around, I did finally see the 2tb Seagate drive on ES, and yes, I purchased the 2tb Seagate drive, the OTG Adapter, and used the cord that came with the 4k Max Firestick. It seems to be working famously now. I'll go back and review the instructions as to how to move movies and things around on ES throughout the course of the day, but thus far... it's a far cry faster and quicker to manipulate than before.

Depends on the IPTV. If the IPTV uses tivimate as an option, then yes. We used to use Cobra IPTV as you could record directly. But without external storage, it made no sense. We have since gone to an on demand box so you never need to set recordings. It's all there for up to 7 days for you.

Did you try force closing es file explorer and restarting the firestick after installing? When you then launch es file it should prompt you to format correctly and show the drive

I did everything you said, but it does not recognize the Ethernet hook up. If I plug the power into the otg cable and the the adapter into the firestick it powers up and recognizes the Ethernet. But, it does not see the external hard drive.

Okay, it seems that when I have the OTG Adapter connected, the wired internet connection doesn’t work, tried both adapters. Remove them and plug the power from the Ethernet Adapter into the Fire Stick, it sees the wired connection. Weird! (I just wish my ‘DonkeyNet’ connection was better than 1.25. Sigh)

Hello - I purchased all the items needed to add an external hard drive to my 4K Max Firestick. I followed all of your instructions in the above video. When I go to My Fire TV, under storage it only shows my internal storage, the external 1 TB hard drive is not showing. After following you instructions to download ES Explorer, it too do not show an external hard drive, it will not let me click on Space Analyzer, actually it don't look like the one you pointed to download. I notice that this information is about 2 years old at least. Is there another download for ES Exolorer? Why is my firestick not seeing my hard drive. When I first attached the hard drive it ask to format and I allow that. Where on the firestick can I re-format?

Hi, following the instructions on the video, I unlocked my Firestick and installed ES file manager. I have a thumb drive I'll connect via OTG shortly but I don't understand something really basic. ES helps you move content off the Firestick onto some external storage like the thumb drive but how do you get content (e.g. a movie) onto the Firestick in the first place? What should be the file format of the drive? Fat32, ExFAT or NTFS? FAT32 has a limitation when it comes to copying files over 4 GB. How do you manage that?

Fat 32 and I haven’t had a recording larger. Largest was 2GB which was a long nfl game. You can adjust the record settings (avoid 4K). Never an issue

Thanks, I've just ordered my otg cable. I've installed the es file reader. 2 strange issues, I doesn't show up on my my apps and channels but it opens up when I click the plus icon (I'm guessing it means to add apps) However, it's still not added. Only way it can be accessed is by using the plus icon. Second issue, the screen fit is off, its too big for my TV so side and lower bars are partially missing. I've been looking around in settings but been unable to resolve. Hoping you can help. I'm using the 2020 release fire stick

You have multiple issues. Looks like you didn't allow all permissions, and you never set up your display settings to your tv. We have videos on both of those issues.

Yes, Ethernet is optional. Just add an OTG cable and hard drive
