Wow, after doing the anti-neck hump video and doing the shoulderblade adjustments you described here, I felt a warm rush of circulation opening up through my wrists and hands (a place where I have chronic tightness and sometimes pain)! Amazing- thank you so much! I especially appreciate your thorough descriptions of the mechanics of posture, and common misconceptions about what good posture looks like. Subscribed! 😊

Hi there - I really like your videos :) Could you make one to fix "square" shoulders? Mine are always too high... people keep telling me to "relax" my shoulders, but they've always been that way, ever since I was I kid. Is there any way to get them a bit down?

I suffer from extreme neck and back pain. I recently went to a doctors visit to talk about this very issue (specifically asking not to go on any pills). When we got onto the subject I remembered that I was trying to fix my posture and sat up straighter (I have not watched your videos before this was a conscious choice on my part as I was always told slouching causes back pain). He immidietely pushed down my shoulders and told me that slouching was the best thing for back pain and that sitting up straight with (his words) "quote unquote good posture" would only do more damage. Then perscribed me 800 mg motrin (which I didnt want at all. I already take over the counter motrin. 200 mg - 4 if those and Im at the same level. What do I need to bother with a doctor for if thats all he can do?) i dont honestly trust it because when I sit nicely I can go for hours but 20 minutes slouching in bed Im dying in pain. Im trying to contact a chiropractor but since youre a "posture expert" can you tell me if there is any credit to his words? I dont want to be the conspirator here but it feels like hes perscribing me pills because he makes money off of it if I fill the perscription rather than actually giving me any medical advice that would help or benefit me. He didnt even come up with a treatment plan so tjat I could one day get OFF the pills. He basically said "slouch more and take these pain killers - next!" Any thoughts? Posture fixing good or bad now that Im in extreme pain?

So sorry to hear about your back pain. I'm not a doctor, and I've never met you, so I don't feel comfortable giving personalized advice. But I can tell you that there are a lot of misconceptions about "good" posture and that people think it involves tension, strength and willpower. And that kind of "good" posture will not help back pain. I can tell you from my own experience that changing my posture cured my back pain (I have 2 herniated discs in my lower back and degenerative disc disease). Changing your posture is cheap, non-invasive and safe. I'm not sure why your doctor gave you that advice, but I think you might benefit from a second opinion. (And if you're interested in a step-by-step guide to changing your posture, there is a book available on my website.)

The Power of Posture thank you. I just made an appointment with a chiropractor for next Saturday who said something very similar. I didnt trust my doctor a bit from the moment he said "Ill write you a perscription for this cream to use on your eyes (they sre dry and peeling yikes) technically you're never supposed to use this even near youre eyes but youre a big girl I'm sure you can handle not getting it in your eye. Lets just see how it goes for now". The guy seemed mire interested in loading me up with creams and pills than my actual health! Either way Ill probably end up purchasing your book soon as the chiropractor did mention that good posture for now was the only way to alleviate any of my pain from my back without pills. Thanks again!

Dude get a new doctor. Slouching is the worst thing for back pain. It may feel ok at the time but you’re putting a lot of pressure on your discs. I’ve had 2 lower back surgeries and while slouching feels better when the muscles are tight I can definitely feel the pressure in my neck and shoulders. Most good doctors would rather send a patient to pt than prescribe meds. Unless you’re in a tiny town with one physician you can always switch primary care doctors. Not every doctor is the right fit for every single patient. Also the “good posture” he’s talking about might just be that rib forward move she did that over accentuates the spinal curve. The advice on here is in line with advice I’ve been given by PT... Good stuff.

Pills are ok if you are in an acute situation but I would never want to go on in life pumping my body with drugs. Personally I believe in good physical therapy as we not only release natural pain killing endorphin during exercise but also correct the posture. Of course we should learn exercises from a qualified therapist and also listen to our body responses as we are all unique individuals and our problems are unique too.

I'm sure your doctor means well but perhaps you would get better advice from a good physiotherapist. Pilates is also very good for your back and posture if you find a good teacher.

I think this happens because the nerves gets pinched. Stop to relieve the nerve, breathe and once relieved, continue. It will take time for everything to go back into place. And you will feel better in time. Just my own experience I'm taking of. So if you're really concerned then maybe consult your doctor first.

Can anybody explain, why we have to fix rounded shoulders? Why do we have to fix our posture? Why a lot of my clients with forward necks, rounded shoulders, hunched backs have no problems, no pains? Do they still have to fix anything? Where does the concept of “good posture” come from? Why a posture is considered good or bad? What if I’m a ballerina with an amazing posture, but I have 10 times more pain and problems in my back than an office worker with “awful” posture? And why as a rule, any back problems are automatically contributed to “bad posture”. I had a massage the other day myself - 2 days after a super strenuous workout session, which naturally gave me DOMS and I just wanted some relief. So, what does the therapist tell me, can you guess? Ohhh, yes, I can see, you have this problem with your shoulders and neck, bad posture. Well, I’ve had this posture for 46 years, and no pain, but I overexerted myself 2 days ago which gave me pain, and he immediately gives me a diagnosis - bad posture. 🤔

i am getting an intense stretch with the palm against a wall and even worse when turning away from the wall. you need to address tingling in the arms and what that means is happening. these videos are quite general.
@posturemakeover71656 жыл бұрын
Without knowing you, it’s hard to say with certainty, but it sounds like your hands are tight which is why the first half of the stretch is more intense. The second half of the stretch is more for your arm. The tingling is not unusual when holding your hand over your heart for an extended period (you hand is “falling asleep”). Just shake it out and start again. But, like I said, the advice here needs to be very general because everyone is different and without knowing you I couldn’t say if there is another problem going on. Your best bet is to check in with a doctor or physical therapist if your concerned.
