About 2 months ago my hump was really bad due to 10 years of hunching at work (office), but when it got really bad was after my two pregnancies (last 4 years or so) carrying and lifting kids and also by breastfeeding (more hunching). I had enough and started working out at the gym 3-4 times a week (focusing on strengthening my back and burning back fat, and opening up the chest, foam rolling and 30 min cardio each time after weight lifting).. At home every morning I did 4 posture excersices I found on KZbin. I slept without a pillow and really got aware of my posture: stopped slouching in the sofa, sitting up straight at the table, started to lift the kids in the correct way, and tried to practice chin tucks often. I can say that after 2 months of doing this the hump is SO much better. I would say half the size. I'm gonna continue doing this and be patient, I feel so hopeful that I wont need to go my entire life with this bump.

The best thing I ever did for my posture was force myself not to look at the floor as I’m walking, I deliberately try to look upwards now, and just the act of tilting your head back lets your whole spine follow, it’s difficult because I have anxiety and stuff and hate speaking to people and want to hide and look at the ground but the more you force yourself to do it the more natural it starts to feel,

Sleeping with a super thin pillow completely straightened out my hunchback within a couple weeks to months-ish. I had tried some of this channel's other exercise videos but was inconsistent with them because they were too hard and I am lazy. This proved to be the video to follow that worked. Now my posture is much better and my traps aren't always tight and aching. Who knew passive stretching could help that much?

I learned this trick with the pillow many years ago. I used to have really bad postural kyphosis, and I've been cracking my back for almost 20 years to fix it (with a little help from others cracking it over the years). Keeping the pillow flatter has helped a lot. Also, developing the spinalis muscles in the middle of the back and doing neck retractions has recently made a major difference!

Also, I’ve been sleeping on the floor due to upper and lower back problems with only blankets under me and a small one under my neck and I’m finally straightening out with my hunchback and lumbar curve. As well as working out my core. I recommend this to anyone with chronic back pain. I had pain that wouldn’t go over for years and I’m finally becoming pain free

I sleep on my back for about three hours without the pillow then stir and grab my pillow to sleep on my side. Let gravity and time do the work for you. Also at the end of a long day you can just lie down on the floor with no pillow and put your feet up on a chair in the astronaut position. I tried it and so far its making me 20% less hunchback after 1 week. I would like to say a big thank you to Dr Matt. For those who have bad hunchback like me and trying this for the 1st time. This is how I felt on the 1st night till the 7th night: 1st Night: My neck and back muscle were so tense in this sleeping position. My hunchback was quite bad, I had problems breathing normally and could only take small breaths when my chin were tucked as per video. I could not sleep well the whole night. I woke up with aching neck and shoulder. I feel my neck bone and spine was aching as well. No difference in my hunchback. 2nd Night: First 3-4 hours, my neck and back muscle were as tense as 1st night. But I could breath 30% slightly better already. After 4 hours of being uncomfortable and unable to fall asleep, the 5th hour, i felt something different. My neck and back muscle were only 50% tense, the other 50% feeling was like the muscles are stretching instead. It felt kind of good as it was streching like a yoga feeling. I manage to fall asleep. I wake up with my neck bone and spine still sore like 1st night, but neck muscle and back muscle were no longer sore. No difference in my hunchback. 3rd Night: I finally able to breath normally. I no longer felt any tense or streching of my neck and back muscles. I only feel a slight pull on my spine and neck bone (Chin still tuck in as per video). I fell asleep in less than an hour. I woke up and look at the mirror and saw my hunchback got 10% better. I also shocked that I am now automatically sit up straight when I am using my computer rather than hunchback. 4th Night: Felt like normal sleep. Wake up and look at mirror, i see a bigger difference in my posture now. My hunchback is offcially reduced by 15%. 7th Night: By the 7th night of sleeping as per video, I wake up and see my hunchback got reduced by 20%. It also make me sit up straight naturally when im using computer and I no longer felt awkward when I had to sit up straight.

For years I slept on the floor as a young adult. Girls would roll their head over the side of the bed, and staring down at me with this puzzled look??? After a hard day I found it how amazingly soft the floor felt. PS: I was back in the bed in a flash in the AM. Nobody ever complained!

Would no pillow be best way to lay on back. That would seem to make the head straight in line with spine.
@7hilladelphia2 жыл бұрын
Maybe talk about hammock sleeping? I love it, with a shallow pillow, lay diagonally and you're badically flat. Its like sleeping in a big hug. Put two on the frame and something to insulate betwern them for winter or cooler nights. Usually only need a simple blanket over top. In summer make a fitted cotton bottom sheet by tieng the ends to each end of your hammock. Double hammock size = best for daily use. Queen size sheet has plenty of length & width. Bye bye expensive mattresses. Wash your hammock now and then. I'm over 65. Took about a month to get used to. Cheap frame, can easily vacume under it or push out of the way altogether more air and less dust, no heavy lifting just to make a huge bed. My cat jumps in too.

No-one seems to mention the potential for extreme muscular pain than can, and in my case, does occur across your back. I'm a 68 year old male and strongly built (not some extreme gym type build) and had begun to notice more recently my bad posture. Having viewed this and similar videos I decided to take action. I started with short periods of time each day, just 20 to 30 minutes in a resting position on my back with a pillow as described. My overall posture has already improved somewhat over the last two weeks, I'm walking 'taller' but my back muscles (not in the small of my back), those at rib height have been 'protesting' causing me a level of grief I had not expected. First thing in the morning I'm fine but by lunchtime my back is quite painful and I need to lie prone again. Painful at first but easing after I relax a little. I guess the affected muscles are reacting to the re-shaping of my back. Why don't any of these medical 'experts' warn of these side effects?
@mauibuilder12396 жыл бұрын
Great video. Many physical therapy videos demonstrate positions by people that are super flexible with normal kyphosis or no forward head posture. It's great to see someone's perspective who has personally has reversed these conditions. I would like to sleep on my back (otherwise I end up in a side fetal position with no gauge of my spinal position) but I have sleep apnea. What do you feel about those wedge foams that elevate the whole torso and knees (or adjustable beds) so you get the benefits of sleeping on your back?
@KatarinaS.6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have the same question about wedges &/or adjustable beds. I've found, after reading other people's testimonials, that sleeping on your back with head elevated is better for avoiding or eliminating wrinkles, sagging skin, & puffy eyes which in middle age & due to health conditions have become a real problem for me. I want to invest in some wedges but want to know for sure if these are good sleeping options before I do so. I've tried sleeping propped up on pillows but it kills my lower back & it's hard to get a comfortable neck position this way. I'd love to get a definitive answer about this.
@99delsur5 жыл бұрын
Organic Farmer My doctor didn't think the wedge was a good idea. He said to get bed risers & put them only under the head of the bed. You get the elevation you need without bending your body in half. (By tilting the entire bed, since it's still flat, you're free to turn in your sleep naturally -- on your side, stomach, whatever.)

Summarize the video please.

He forgot to mention one IMPORTANT NOTE: Don't let your shoulders rest on the pillow. The pillow (if you have one) should start from your neck. Let it fill the space around your neck when sleeping sideways, not raise your shoulders.. the filling will feel comfortable and will straighten your posture. Try it out and thank me later. ;)

I have been slowly reducing the height of my pillow "stack." For many years, I had 3 pillows, then 2 pillows and now a rolled towel. It will take time, but the hunch back and the forward head position will be corrected over time. It's difficult to make this transition because you will lose some sleep at first, but it will be very worthwhile. My backache is disappearing. Yahoo!

Awesome video! At age of 45 I felt stiffness in my neck especially after sleeping. Sleeping on my back with no pillow is what helped me. My chiropractor gave me exercises to push my chin inside. One should be able to draw a straight line from the ears to the shoulders looking from the side. Try to force your body in a straight position throughout the whole day by pushing athe chin in, bring your shoulders back and chest forward :-)

So you want to have a little ''stair'' thing going on when sleeping. I had trouble with a disk bump (Not a permanent bump) but when i move my head forward theres a disk bump sticking out. I have been sleeping on my back with a straight head and using a tennis ball and a towel on the floor as exercise. My head feels lighter and it has done wonders for straightening the neck disks! I can recommend this to everyone!
