Nice quick fix there 👍 Here’s a tip for anyone having starting issues, check the choke pick up tubes , those are the brass tubes in the carbs that nobody knows what they are for 😂, my 1993 blade would struggle to start and then run rough until warm, I checked the downpipe temperatures and sure enough down pipe one was way down on temperature when starting from cold, took the bowl off and found a blockage in the end of the pickup tube, used a sewing needle to carefully pick it out and then blew through it with carb cleaner, after which she starts fine and runs sweet whilst warming up, incidentally this was after I’d had the carbs ultrasonically cleaned, which goes to show that you can’t rely on an ultrasonic clean getting everything.

My 94 runs like crap until warm, bike has sat for years prior, had the carbs redone and ultrasonic cleaned, I’m just about the check the valve clerances but i’ll look into these, it used to like to warm up with full choke, but now it dies if you do that so must be a issue there

I used to have that exact bike. Was a lovely beast but didn't like the wet. Any sign of rain and it'd cut out and die. Many people tried to fix it, nobody was able to. I Sold it and bought the 2004 CBR1000RR instead. Never looked back.

Nice job. Found the problem quickly, while the owner could have spent ages cleaning carbs. Lovely condition blade too. A pleasure working on stuff like that I bet. 👍

Ha, that's funny you're based about half a mile from my house! Watched this video as my CB600F sounded funny on the last mile going home and wanted to hear what a bike running on three sounded like, as I had guessed that it was that. Restarted it when I got home and it was fine again oddly. Due a service net month anyway.

Had a similar problem on a fazer 1000, measured the temperature of the downpipes and one was cooler. After a lot of faffing a set of new plugs sorted it out.

Great stuff 🤙🏽 I have an identical ‘99 Blade in my garage collection which I am slowly working through.. It hasn’t been ridden or started in 4 years, and for sure the carbs are gummed up. It’s the last job on my list to sort out. 3 of my 6 bikes are carb’d.. CBR1000F, ZXR750 H2 and the Fireblade, so I always run the bikes on fuel stabiliser in an effort to combat modern fuels 💁🏻‍♂️ Top video 👍🏼 Subscribed

Just one question, why remove the mirrors? I have the same bike in a different colour scheme, this was so satisfying to watch 👍
@themobilemotorbikemechanic
@themobilemotorbikemechanic 10 ай бұрын
This particular bike was fitted with an aftermarket steering damper and aftermarket top fairing brace. The mirrors had to be removed so the faring brace could be removed, so the steering damper could be removed, so the front tank mounts could be undone. A bit of a pain but something we just have to deal with.

Wow great job , how do you think the blanking screw came out and it was so out of balance 😊
@themobilemotorbikemechanic
@themobilemotorbikemechanic 10 ай бұрын
The blank may not have been tightened fully after its last carb balance. It is unusual to find carbs this far out of balance but not unheard of especially if they have been removed and refitted.

So what screw you used for the carb? My no.3 cylinder is misfiring. I’m currently working on it
@themobilemotorbikemechanic
@themobilemotorbikemechanic 5 ай бұрын
On this particular bike it was a blanking bolt that was missing on the no3 vacuum port. Standard M5 bolt (but keep it short!) was required.

That bike is either well looked after or hardly used, i have the same model and after 24 years its still in good shape but its got a few scuffs here and there. Ive been trying to find a steering damper for it, has anyone any idea who makes one to fit this model.

We were taught to set revs at approx 2500 when balancing carbs. No need to disconnect the TPS.

I get really annoyed by miss information! especially when someone is masquerading as an authorithey on the subject. You Don't need to raise the idle to balance throttle bodies or carbs. Occasionally a slight increase is required to smooth out the reading on the vacuum guages. Once you have a steady reading on the guages the idle should be set as low as possible without the engine stalling. This amplifies any discrepancy in the inlet tract vacuum (which is the point of balancing in the first place). Ignore the main Jet comment 🤔 absolutely no idea what he's talking about. It's not even close to coming off the pilot circuit at that sort of throttle opening 🤦
@HalfdeadRider
@HalfdeadRider 10 ай бұрын
@@SuperbikeSurgeryTV I was told to just make sure the engine is at running temps to balance properly, then as he did in the video, keep resetting the rpm to where it should be and adjust as needed, around 1400rpm for idle on these I believe.
