I can say this series has been great and good to see you get a few "wins" on being able to repair the rig. It is amazing how much the automotive space and IT/PC hardware overlap, reason why I went from being an Automotive tech to now managing major hardware deployments with the company I am with now - getting to play with new "toys" is always fun. The biggest cross-over is in the diagnostic side - if you're a tech with good diag skills the crossover is seamless in-between the two fields (other than now that vehicles have more on-board computers than anything now starts to push into the IT space in a way).
@profosist3 жыл бұрын
I can explain the boot issues with the USB drives for windows install and should have probably made a proper video on it at some point. X58 does not have a UEFI so it need a MBR/BIOS installer for windows not a GPT/UEFI one. If you used the media creation tool on a newer system it makes the tool for that system which will be UEFI. My recommendation would be to download the ISO either though the media creation tool or by browsing to the windows 10 site with a non windows user agent. "Mobile View Switcher" is the browser add-on I use for this which has it other uses as well. Once you have the ISO download Rufus. Select your drive, your image, BIOS, and MBR and you should be good to go! I use Rufus to make bootable drives for most things. The other limitation you we thinking of when it cable to drive sizes is related to formatting. The cap for a FAT32 drive in modern windows is 32GB. If you need and even older bootable drive for say DOS or something like that youll need the FAT file system which is capped at 4GB. This is slightly different for SD cards as SDHC cards start at 4GB but will format as FAT32 generally. For SD Cards youll was 2GB or less if you need FAT. This was something the Wii dealt with and you need a 2GB SD card to transfer saved of Super Smash Bros to your Wii U. Lastly with the system not booting to that HDD. X58 didnt have native SATA III so any that you see on the board will need drivers loaded at time of install just like if you were installing to a RAID array. There is a chance that the original install had that drive in the Marvell SATAIII and not the Intel SATAII. The non UEFI installs of Windows are not very good at switching between boot controllers or modes. Normally you could be in AHCI, switch to RAID, boot into Safe Mode once, and be up and running.
@Cinnabuns20093 жыл бұрын
" If you used the media creation tool on a newer system it makes the tool for that system which will be UEFI." This is not true. If you UNCHECK the box to make the MediaCreationTool builder build FOR THE SYSTEM ITS ON then it will boot on ANY system and not just UEFI. MCT works just fine, just uncheck the box.
@profosist3 жыл бұрын
@@Cinnabuns2009 you still can't specify MBR/BIOS or GPT/UEFI which is something you can do when using something like Rufus or doing it manually. The former is just far easier than the manual method.
@Cinnabuns20093 жыл бұрын
@@profosist You don't need to specify. If you uncheck the box, you can do either at Win10 install time. If you leave the box checked (its the only one?) than it makes the only choice what you already have. So uncheck the box, have an agnostic installer, remove the need to use additional junk you don't need.

The user will experience random crashes in games or loss of files without warning (windows might even confirm that the drive is fine). That needed dusting? I did a throughout cleanup on my rig and it has already more dust in it than that. Nice to see a fixup of a viewer machine that doesn't just consist of replacing 3/4 of the parts. Keep doing the good work!

I do like the vertical mount option you used in this one and how it turned out to improve the appearance of computer. Plus that didn't require a change in case or having to cut those back slot brackets.

I like the series on fixing computers. Its very informative and there is always something to learn. I thought there was a m.2 drive in but I was wrong. I've watched your channel from the beginning . You great work Greg.

You’ve adapted to the modern times better than most pc yt channels. I enjoy watching you clean and fix old hardware rather than seeing another 3090 build

I really enjoy this content. I'm a PC technician also. The issue I have is that my associate and I don't have a bunch of parts lying around to test and see what works. Hands are limited in our hardware troubleshooting. Sometimes need to outsource to a shop with more parts to try and see if situation can be resolved.

The best parts about these videos are imo the educational part of them. There might be a situation in the future where we have to troubleshoot our own PC or a friend's or family's system. This series is a type of practice for that :D

I like these and the cleaning videos, they provide insight into working on PCs, cleaning them, and adding to my playlist as some of the songs you use are pretty banger.
