I finally got around to fix the leaking exhaust manifold on the Ford Escape and also had to fix a new coolant leak in the "coolant crossover" behind the cylinder head.
Hopefully it runs for a while longer for the wife.
I sure beat the hell out of this car when I was driving it regularly.

Thanks for the video. I have a Volvo S80 with this engine and after reading about it, I expected loose nuts on exhaust manifold. Watching your video, I today checked that and one nut was very loose. Thanks

Does your Volvo have the Ford engine? I know that Volvo was owned by Ford for a while until they sold off their European companies after the recession.

Yes, on 2012-2015 Volvo had 1.6 Liter T3 and T4 which are Ford Ecoboost. Before, Volvo had 5 cylinder engines which were a pretty old construction with high fuel consumption. 2016 the VEA engine came on Volvo.

Thank you for the video! Replacing a friends now and it's just as bad 😑😑 was there an O-ring in the channel where it was all broken apart? If so do you know what size? I'm having problems finding the part let alone any info on an O-ring. Cheers

You have to remove the engine or at least unholy the motor mounts and lift one side up at a time to get access

Ford sure didn't have a better idea when they made this engine. My son has one, it has a coolant leak, can't find. Headed to shop Friday

They will probably find it with a pressure test. It's now been over a year since I fixed this leak and it is still holding coolant. Daughter now drives it daily across town.9 years old now so aside from the few silly repairs it is still going.

I have the same engine and I’m trying to locate the cylinder head sensor. Was it back there above the exhaust manifold? I already replaced the coolant temp sensor just need to find the cylinder head temp sensor

I don't recall. It's not on the driver side of the head where that plastic water manifold bolts to the head?

To monitor the system with an inexpensive tool buy a ELM327 OBDII adapter on Amazon and use FORscan software on a laptop. Check the FORscan forums.

The new engines dont even have manifolds. The turbo bolts right to the head and the head has the exhaust runners built into it!
@riothero313

Yeah, I'm glad mine doesn't. I have replaced mine with an tig welded equal length 304 stainless aftermarket part. With the integrated manifolds you have no after market support, they can't spool big turbos for crap, and they can have uneven egr temps. The outside 2 cylinders will always have hotter temps. The only time it might be preferred is if it is a twin scroll and you are staying stock.

What where the symptoms of bad exhaust manifold turbo lag
@hackfreehvac
@hackfreehvac 3 жыл бұрын
It pretty much just ticked from the leak for about 20 seconds. The manifold would heat up within a minute and seemed to seal up. It didn't leak enough to loose much power.

Motor craft and the O ring you'll need is W714789s300... if it's leaking out of the bottom when you put coolant in the overflow tank that plastic part is the issue. There is also a T line that run into the coolant outlet flange and if it overheats all the plastic parts on the way out from the motor will start to break apart. It's about $200 fix on your own. The coolant bypass valve is another major issue and it attaches to the front of this part he's replacing. That's the entire flaw with the system, a bunch of plastic parts attached to it... plus your head may have microcracks

I suggest getting a catch can too keep oil getting recirculated back into the intake and gumming up the valves with carbon cause all turbo cars should have it but don't and it's the death of the top end with the crank case oil blow bye going into the intake so I put them on all turbo cars and run them hard and hot too burn off the carbon....but gotta love new bullshit cars that cram 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lbs bag....lol

It would not be too bad if we knew beforehand what we would have disassembled to access that broken bolt. But having one of us on top and one under the car sure helped where it would have sucked for me by myself. The amount of components on modern cars for the cooling and emissions is just insane tho.

@hackfreehvac
@hackfreehvac 3 жыл бұрын
It's burning it through the head gasket or something or do you mean it's just leaking it somewhere? I drove this thing hard and only had the external leaks at the reservoir tank and then that crazy plastic manifold piece as shown here.
