Mathieu L Tate’s speed and animation are great but I agree 100% on his art being garbage. His best drawing is the UI Goku first kick frames but it’s barely recognizable. His normal art style doesn’t fit Dragonball whatsoever and it just proves that the series would’ve been far better had Takahashi been involved with it sooner, since his models follow the OLD Yamamuro style and present sharper ( and stronger) visuals. Tate’s art makes everything too damn soft and fat, it’s like he is drawing wacky One Piece characters on a Dragonball series. Ps: One Piece’s art is great, but it wouldn’t fit Dragonball, which is far more known for sharp , muscular , and kinda serious designs.

What went wrong was DBS's completely ruined schedule at the start nearly crippling it. Imagine if they were able to their schedule from the start.

I feel ashamed. I complained like a wimp about supers animation and thought it was the fault of the animators, but I was so wrong. I should’ve known about the fact that the higher ups and executives were at fault for the poor animation by giving the animators impossible deadlines. It just hurts now to realize as well a executive disgustingly blaming veteran animators for the poor quality rather than bite the bullet and admit that they weren’t being fair to the animators because they wanted money. It actually now makes me think that some things about other animation properties suffer the same because of this very same issue, and most certainly makes me think the same could be said about the games that are produced like Dragonball Xenoverse 2 which despite the amazing Updates that has been supplied and being superior to its predecessor, has still suffered heavy criticism for its gameplay (despite being an improvement), mechanics, and even its content that it had since launch. Which it isn’t fair since xenoverse 1 could’ve been a good game if they had more time, and xenoverse 2 could’ve been godly if it also weren’t for possible time constraints due to the game being made literally a year or less after its predecessor. I can’t believe I have been so blind and now because of you mark, ajay, and trev, you three have opened my mind and my eyes and I can finally appreciate the hard work and dedication to these properties like I should’ve since the beginning.

Ever heard of Black Clover? The director loves the franchise however the studio, Pierrot, also animates Boruto and guess in which project did they put all their money and staff in. Resulting in the director actually asking his non-profesional animator friends for help to animate a fight, which did not turn out so well. Heck, I still believe the reason for every Black Clover opening having multiple versions is that the staff didn't have enough time to correct it when it first came out so they slowly were fixing them while animating episodes. Also, MHA fans literally complained about the background in two shots being the same. A WEEK BEFORE THE EPISODE CAME OUT. THE FIGHT WAS IN THE *SKY*. AND I MEAN THERE WERE TO TWO PEOPLE FIGHTING A LOT OF FEET/METERS IN THE SKY. THEY SAID IT WAS UNCREATIVE. Atleast you apologised and now know the truth.

For me, constantly hearing about how Ajay draws with his mouse is actually motivating. I really want to learn how to draw on PC (just enough to properly get my idea across to my friends during tabletop RPG sessions), but since I have no money even for the cheapest tablet, seeing how good a mouse-drawn work can look makes me believe, that I don't have to spend money (I may upgrade my mouse but that's also because I'm a gamer, so two birds with one stone).

sup, my dude or dudess, most artists start drawing with a mouse and you can make great art with a mouse, some then later start using a tablet and something improves. but at the end it is not the tools its the artist, I have heard this story from an architect once that there was this guy that could draw almost perfect circles freehand in every drawing. because he saw other technical drawings and nobody told him that there were special tools like compass to make circles so he thought himself to do this. so I can not stress out enough if you really keep to it and believe it you might find ways to make amazing art.

The real problem with super's art, especially the pre tournament arc are the oversaturated colours and highlighted skin, not to mention the new lineart style where the facial features are simplificated for easier drawing.

Well that was just the chosen style, the point of the video was to imagine the show as it would have looked with more time. More time wouldn't have changed a chosen artstyle and style isn't really thing that can be objectively stated as bad since it's a up to the viewer's taste. I think Jojo's style is atrocious but I also won't say the animators are bad at their jobs because they do well from a technical point of view.

Super's anime style is incredibly rigid. That's the issue. The designs aren't made with animation in mind, leading to animators having to break the models to let themselves really shine(see: Naoki Tate). This is why the change in style in the Super Broly film was so important beyond properly updating the look of the series. Those designs, besides being pretty faithful to the manga, allow for the animators to go all out and the changes in style never look overly drastic. Well, all that, and Super's anime had the issue of extreme crunch. And some folks somehow wanted Yuya Takahashi to animate everything by himself, pretty much begging him to go through extreme burnout.

The reason I chose that correction is because it's such a funny mistake to me as I thought it was an easy correction, and it was silly that wasn't even corrected for the disc release, however after watching these episodes I realize how much time it takes. Seeing how the 3 of you can make outstanding artworks, why not try to create a Dragon Ball Super Anime based on purely the DBS Manga by Toyotaro? Of course I don't know how difficult it is to create an anime, but with the skills you guys possess, it would make perfect sense for you guys to recreate DBS. Also in general sense, I think the entire Dragon Ball Fandom could come forward to help them in this project. I don't mean to say recreate the entirety of the anime. Only the important canon part (without fillers). Also excluding BoG and RF sagas. Everyone reading this comment, let me know what do you guys think. And @Mark, if you are reading this, do let me know your thoughts.

Not really, just an average healthy schedule is fine for animators. What Toei needs to do in order to increase quality and overall consistency is to extend pre production to an acceptable extent and cut a lot of studio workload. Toei is a collosal studio that tackles a lot of projects at the same time(including multiple long running projects). Studios like Bones or Kyoto do not do something like that. Quality>quantity Of course, in the end, money is the only thing companies think about.

Skinny Gohan was my favorite re-draw, it seemed to have the most off model "before" version and thew correction makes a huge difference. I would love to see a full animation redrawn, even if it was a just a few seconds long, to really compare a before and after of how long it would take to improve the animation of the show. Don't blame y'all if you don't want to sink the time into it but it would be very interesting to see.

The writing sucks because they can hardly do more with the characters. Most of them have already grown, and they dont want to use the characters that have potential like Gohan, goten, and trunks. As long as people keep eating up the same goku story over and over, bbn I dont think it will be fixed. I hope that the next db series has more to do with the Young Universe 7 and Universe 6 saiyans.

@@Nana-qb4dh Yeah, i think that is the thing. I just feel personally there is no where else for Goku to go, he has reached God form and even UI. UI being possibly the strongest form Goku has ever achieved. I just honestly don't want him to become so infinity powerful where he becomes a joke. Personally, I would like a series set in a universe where Goku is no longer present but his legacy lives on. Imo it would be a fresh start and a new adventure, a chance to see new characters and new enemies. I don't hate super but I feel like it's a downgrade compared to Z.
