Fixing harbor freight air compressor

I didn't get it totally fixed but i'm 99% sure its the capacitor. Ill post another video once i have the part.

And one more suggestion from the box seats. Drain the original oil out and put light weight Transmission fluid in it and see if it fix the top relief valve popping issue.

Dude your compressor is perfectly fine!! It’s the stupid valve on the very top!! Just remove it, take the snap ring holding the check valve and remove the O ring inside the valve, now put the the valve back together ( without the O ring of course)and your compressor will start every time it goes low!!

Man, I wish I knew that before but I ended up getting a new one as the motor dropped and the housing broke.

Mine does the same thing when using an extension cord but remove cord and it works which really limits your use but they are all like this and you shouldn’t have remove,add or replace any parts after they sell it to you like this but mine does work with just the cord it came with and I took the cover off for better cooling

Replace with a quarter inch ball valve. Open to start, close slowly. Works perfect.

When my AC unit outside of my house was doing the same thing it was the capacitor.

You need to learn the names of the parts. You put the piston into the cylinder. The head is the thing you removed to get to the reed valves. the small end of the connecting rod goes to the piston and big end goes to the crank journal. You called the crank journal a connecting rod.

Your machine is missing its air filter. (Empty round housing on top left.) Air filters are not optional equipment.

They’re bad when you get em,absolutely everyone has that problem.i’m going to strip the pump off the motor and get the H.F. 2hp oil pump and I’ve got the craftsman 6hp 60 gal that I did it to already and got the 5 hp H.F. oil pump 2cyl.and I’m going to hook ‘em all together along with another 15 gal tank which will make 96 gals with a 5hp pump and a 2 hp pump one is 220 the other is 110.should be much quieter and a hell of a unit.

I do not. I would guess 1/4 - 20 but can’t remember if they were standard or metric. Possibly could be M6 is they are metric

you can test it with a multimeter (“DVOM”, “DMM”) that measures “capacitance”. This particular unit has a capacitor (the silver cylinder under the black cover mounted on the motor) which should measure 130 microFarads +/- 5% (that’s the backwards “u”F unit of measure); That is anywhere from 123.5 to 136.5. uF Outside of that, the capacitor is bad. My unit (same exact one) has a faulty pressure switch. Cap good, reed valves good; It’s not popping the overload circuit breaker, but it IS blowing out the relief valve under the “AUTO/OFF” switch when I manually push the contacts to run the motor. Only builds tank pressure to 50 PSI.

Hi I like to ask you question I got same air compressor my doesn't do nothing. I got power in the circuit box. Power on the reset button but no power on the yellow and white wires connect to the capacitor. So compressor is dead. What u think is the problem ? Plz help me

You have the reset on your motor and if yours is like mine I have another reset where it’s plugged in so I have 2 resets to check but if you look at the info that came with your compressor it tells you not to use an extension cord.I removed mine putting near the plug in and now it works but it’s very limiting that way

So whatever was bad on yours it's the same on mine i already have the plastic cover took off so I'm now ready to dig in my first thought was it's the fan motor going out from how it sounds like yours
