- As the final prep stage before interior paint in this video I go over how I sealed the rivets on my Jon Boat using Gluvit. It turned out to be a really great and easy to use epoxy that did a tremendous job seeping into the rivets and making everything watertight.

What was your mix ratio for small batches if its 5:1 ratio. How did you figure that out?

You could put it on the bottom. It does recommend to be painted over for UV protection, I personally only use on the interior.

Great video. I’m planning on getting this for my boat. Mine is a 17’ V with a 90hp so too big to flip over. Will this work if I paint the underside as well as inside, without flipping it over? Thanks in advance.

If you do the underside without flipping it over you're going to have some trouble with drips because its a very loose epoxy. Applying from the inside should seal it up really well.

Finally got gluvit in the mail . Unfortunately it leaked in the package . Didn’t seem to be that much though , but I opened the can and it was only 3/4 full . It’s that normal .. sorry for the random question. Thanks

That's normal, typically if you are using the whole thing you mix the one can into the other so they give you space for that. I found it best to mix it in small batches to only use what you need.

And want it to be perfect. As you know, it’s a lot of work and I’ve got 23 hrs of prep done grinding and wire wheel. If you can believe it. Anyways, thanks again bud. much appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼

With epoxy or polyester resins the bigger the batch, the faster it cures. The exothermic reaction intensity is dependent on the amount of product in the mix and often it cures too quickly to complete the job if large batches are mixed

Yes I did, it was miserable. Lol Used a wire wheel around the rivets/braces and paper everywhere else. A lot of work but well worth it.

I think you should have actually painted when it was still tacky. The instructions i read said to paint when you could see fingerprints but nothing came off on your finger.

You might be mixing up the instructions for applying a second coat, this is what they say for painting: To overcoat Gluvit after cure, wash the surface with warm soapy water or a dilute vinegar solution and a fine abrasive pad, or wet sand, then dry with clean towels or cloth. Frost-sand surface with 80-100 grit sand paper to remove any gloss. Gluvit can be overcoated with any marine paint or other coating compatible with epoxies.

@@mvboutdoors i know i read that but i coulda swore i read that you could overcoat when tacky abd avoid sanding. It then said "when cured" to differentiat from an overcoat before it was cured.

If I could flip my roof over and seal a pin-hole leak with epoxy -- you bet I would! (Joking aside, all of the rivets were rebucked, the gluvit was an added layer of sealant)
