The only times I’ve seen that type of bubbling, etc. is if the paint was exposed to high heat. One example would be if I used a heat gun to help dry the paint and didn’t move the heat quick enough or it got too close. Thus, high heat exposure could be the culprit. Perhaps it was near a gas heater or radiator… not sure. Another issue I’ve experienced bubbling or separation from is using “no rinse” cleaners. I learned that it doesn’t matter if the cleaning/deglosser says you don’t have to rinse the residue off with water. You never know when a chemical reaction can occur. I always rinse now.
@ptdesignscoАй бұрын
Yep! I've had the exact same problem happen actually to my wall with my heat press. Even when I tried to keep the press somewhat away from the wall, boom, bubbles in the paint!
@RTANTIQUESАй бұрын
I've painted houses for 30 yrs, before that I sold paint and troubleshot painting issues. The fact that this issue only happened on 1 piece, and predominately in 1 side of the piece tells me it wasn't the paint or your application process. This was an outside issue altogether,... my guess is it was stored facing to a damp wall or some other strange situation. If it were the products or procedure in which they were applied, the blisters would be on all sides of all pieces. Kudos to you for standing behind the products you sell. I do hope the buyer flips you a tip for going the extra steps here.
@bonniesf6719Ай бұрын
If that was the case, that might explain why the top drawer was not affected. The dampness could have been facing just the lower drawers. Very strange issue. But Lauren made it right! Great job!

@xthatwhiteguyxАй бұрын
I believe this, as well. Wrapping it with plastic wrap and keeping it in a warm place, while the paint is still relatively fresh and uncured (thus still technically wet).
@flaminbird1Ай бұрын
I agree with what other others are saying it wasn’t anything you did. It looks like the dresser was left wrapped up for awhile and moisture was the issue

There's still moisture in the paint for several weeks after painting. So technically, it could be everyone's fault lol.

I had a table top bubble up like this when I left it under a patio cover where I was working . During the night, it rained so it was exposed to high humidity under warm temperatures. I had to strip it down and start over like you did. But it only happened on the top of the table. You handled it perfectly! Way to go Lauren! ❤

Thanks for the GreenEZ recommendation! I haven't tried to strip anything because I was unaware of anything except Jasco.
@furniturerevivalist9812Ай бұрын
Probably a combination of circumstances. The handles sticking is indicative of the paint not fully dried. Wrapping it up in itself is not an issue. I have wrapped painted pieces without issues. Someone else mentioned that one should advise the buyer to remove wrapping after transporting the piece. The new painted piece looks great. Love the colour and wood conbiation.

Great attitude about this unfortunate situation. Your willingness to make things right, without question, is a testament to your great character. You’re exactly the type of person that people love to do business with and you’ll get a lot of referrals by word of mouth. My guess is that there was some moisture trapped in the wood or old finish that caused this issue when the piece was acclimated to its new home. Looking forward to your next video Lauren!

Through all the years I've painted furniture,this has only happened once. I discovered the culprit. The piece was used in a bathroom next to wall mounted electric heater. The side nearest to the heat bubbled. Great job addressing the issue. Totally off the subject, but thenk you for sharing the rolls of paint tape attached to plastic. It worked great on the five drawer dresser I am working on.

I though heat. especially that it was on the front of the dresser of one dresser. I read the other post... now more sure.... heat. I would say it wasn't your fault but it's great that you are fixing the problem and "teaching" us how to fix problems.
@lindac.9880Ай бұрын
The bubble pattern is odd - one would think the entire front should have bubbles, not just some of it (the bubble pattern runs horizontal). I almost wonder if there was moisture in the wood and refinishing disrupted it somehow. We had our front door repainted and there's one tiny bubble that raises up and flattens down over and over again, but nothing like the bubble you're dealing with. Thank you for sharing this and standing by your work - it's respectable. Hopefully the bubble will not return once you have refinished the piece a second time.
@jfrede2889Ай бұрын
Plastic wrap can have a reaction with the paint especially when you leave the plastic on for an extended period of time. I had the same thing happen when I wrapped a door in plastic that had been painted years before. The paint bubbled and came off. Weird

If the drawers were not completely sanded back there could have been a contaminant that couldn’t be seen had been spilt on parts of the dresser awhile ago. I saw this on another channel by John’s Furniture Repair that bubbled in random places in the varnish and it was a deep penetrating contaminant that had to have a special solution put on it after it was stripped off as it had gone into the wood fibres. I don’t think people should be blaming the client or Lauren. It’s just something that happens on the rare occasion.

It happens when the primer/undercoat hasn’t cured properly - this means the gases that escape when curing have nowhere to go and make the top coat bubble.

I agree with others. I think this piece was exposed to heat/sun. I had this happen to a freshly painted wall that was hit by hot summer afternoon sun. It kept bubbling. We peeled, sanded and repainted twice before we figured out the problem. We put a curtain in front of it until it completely cured and had no more issues.
@Hollybank5Ай бұрын

It's a good thing this wasn't one of the sets that Lauren sometimes mixes paint colors for. Unless she had leftover, she would never have been able to match the color. The plastic wrap is the main reason - it traps moisture underneath it. Then because the bubbling is all on one side, I would imagine the buyer stored it with that side facing a heat source, like a radiator, without taking the wrap off.

@patriciakumar115Ай бұрын
I have a theory as to what may have caused the paint to fail/bubble on this dresser. It could be due to a series of unusual/unexpected circumstances. Since the dresser sat in your shop for about a month before it was sold and if your shop isn't air conditioned, and then, the dresser went to a home that wasn't air conditioned and then was placed where the dresser was sitting in direct sunlight, under those conditions, it's possible that the dresser's finish failed. We live in a 120-year old house, which is not air conditioned. I placed a painted piece of furniture in direct sunlight and, you guessed it, the painted finish failed. The sunlight coming through a glass window just magnifies the sun and causes more damage than one would think. I hope this helps with solving the mystery.
