My $1500 Volvo V70R's paint has always been one of its biggest flaws so today I'm fixing the bumper and fender for $200 to transform the look of the car.

Solid temporary fix. But you gotta get that R model bumper fixed. Worth some money!
@3ollen
@3ollen 3 ай бұрын
That's a standard S60 facelift bumper. The V70 and S60 had completely different designs. Decent temporary fix, but get that R-bumper fixed. They can cost as much as $600 in that bad condition even here in Sweden.

A new bumper is $900-$1000, paint is another $300-$400. Maybe down the road I’ll do it but that’s an absurd amount of money.

@@wheelemverb reasonable to fix the more important things first. Just spent about $750 on a facelift bumper with addons and a paint job for my -04 T5. Nice to see more people having fun with old Volvo's 🙌

i have built my own bumper and i can say that it has given me a lot of experiance and i can say that it is worth it to strip the paint and try to fix the bumper he has got, just stip the paint maybe some fiberglass and plastic weld the cracks on with bondo and sand it down

The quality of your videos is fantastic. A buddy of mine put me on this Volvo V70R series as we both love the V70 and now V60 series. I have a 1993 Saab 900 Commemorative Edition that I'll be putting some similar, much much needed work into over the next few years and watching this series just makes me want to get a move on even faster. Cheers for giving a beautiful wagon more life.

New bumper has great style for short money, I call it a win. Tough to beat a solid junkyard find! Now you can make it more your own and add a splitter or something without worrying about damaging an R bumper. David Freiburger from Roadkill says it best, "Don't get it right, just get it running!" 👍

For the amount of effort you had in the bumper cover swap you could have made some solid progress on refurbishing the R bumper cover. It’s a great project to cut your teeth on auto body work. A cheap hvlp gun, some sanding supplies, paint, primer, clear, etc would have been in $200-250 range. Feels like you’ll end up doing that in the end. Auto body is not as hard as you might think just takes patience, a steady hand and attention to detail. I sanded, prepped and sprayed my own ‘93 Cobra in my garage all on my own with only prior experience painting smaller panels and such over the years and it turned out great. FWIW I have an electric silver ‘07 S60R and replaced the bumper twice in the 17 years I’ve owned it. Was able to get a factory color painted bumper cover brand new from the dealer for around $800 each time. At that price it was worth my time vs fixing my road rashed bumper covers. It has also served as my daily so down time had to be kept to a minimum.

Great temporary fix with the bumper but as others have said, it really doesn't look as good as even that scrappy old V70r bumper did, I would try and fix that R bumper, I bet you could do it! That proper V70r bumper is part of what makes it an R. Also, those side indicators look great I think and are cheap to buy online. It's a matter of taste I know but deleting those doesn't enhance the look of the car and makes it that bit harder for other road users to see you indicating even if it's just a little bit... EDIT. The wing mirrors with built in indicators from that scrap car is deffo a nice option! BTW love your fails with the wheel fitment etc! Thanks for keeping those in, they make me feel better about my many many fails with stuff like this and makes the videos way more entertaining. Keep up the awesome work. I need to do some videos on my T5 after being inspired by your channel

There are inexpensive and reasonably good quality LED replacements for those fender mounted signals. Pleased to see how successful your channel is with this project - congratulations. With the high beams, did you know you have to move the headlight switch from automatic to manual? Otherwise the high beams only come on for as long as you pull the turn signal stalk back. Why is anyone's guess - one of the strangest things about these cars. I had a V70 with those HID headlights and the high beam was excellent.
