Jin - you should look into STI-brake lever gear shifters for your bike. You can find used mechanical (non-electric) ones at good prices these days. They have these STI shifters now where the cables go underneath the handlebar tape (similar to your set up now).

It was fun to watch the transformation of your bicycle. I remember I had those Sun Rhyno Lite rims on my bicycle when I first had the wheels put together 24 years ago. They were the strongest touring rims I could find at the time. They served me well, but I remember them also being quite heavy. Perhaps they're not as heavy now. I'm curious if you kept track of the cost of everything and came up with a final price for this complete overhaul of your bike. There's always the question of whether it makes sense to do this much work on an old bicycle. In the end, there's nothing left of the original bicycle but the frame. Everything else is new. And in that case, it might even be a cheaper option to simply replace the whole bicycle. Buying individual components can be a lot more expensive than getting all the components pre-installed on a brand new bike fresh from the factory. And then you get the added advantage of getting a modern setup. I'm curious if you thought about that option at all.

I think there's a sentimental value to keep the older frame
@canica99

she has 50 thousand miles and over 90 countries on that frame...I agree that in a consumer based economy where it is easier for the consumer to just get a new one versus preserving the old one, getting a new shinny bicycle would make sense, but I think the fact that she is only replacing the parts needed to continue her journey and keeping lucky around for as long as she can, it is a testament as to why this woman has been able to travel for as long and far as she has....no way when she is old will she look at new frame like she will lucky...I say keep the bike, that is like her child and keeping the frame and using parts as long as she has is also great for the environment...a shiny new bike is always an amazing and fleeting moment.

1. A new bike with the similar value is 4~5 times more expensive than getting new parts. 2. Even if I get a new bike, I must change the parts every 15,000 km. So just change parts is much cheaper. 3. I like uninstall things and see how it looks like inside since I was child. (The problem is I always struggle to reinstall. Sometimes I uninstalled broken things before threw it away to see inside.) 4. I feel satisfied when I fix something. 5. I travel with this bike over six continents that it has sentimental value to me. 6. Some follower offers me a new version of Surly tour bike and new Ortlieb bags recently, but I don't find a reason to change as I am about to finish my trip this year and I like to keep old things. 7. I only like new things if it's electric gears or beautiful clothes and it's necessary to change. I hope this answers help you to understand :) Thanks!

Could you please make a playlist of your videos that starts at the beginning and goes all the way through?

Someone asked me why I don't get a new bike. Here are answers. (I am not an enthusiast environment activist, but I think if I keep using old thing until it goes bad, it's good for environment too. ) 1.

I see few strong reasons to ride a new bike 😊 1. Comfort. You said your current bike is too big, perhaps you can get something that fits 2. Sponsors! What if you can get paid riding the bike? I think you might be able to sell/lend your old one to some bike museum and use the sale money towards a new one 😂
