Fixing power shut off protection issue with Yamaha Receiver RX V675

How I fixed my Yamaha, Receiver, RX-V765. It was shutting off after a few seconds, going into protection mode.

I had my V375 yesterday refuse to power up after a period of low voltage from the national grid. When power fully restored I checked all fuses and they were fine. I used your tone, info, power hack and it came on with sleep in flashing red. Seems fine again now so guess that it shut down as sensed low power fault. Such a relief as I love the machine. Worked on my Yamaha rx-v657 which doesn't have a usb port, but I found the connector with 2 gray and 1 red wire, unplugged it and boom! Thank you! 🙏🏿

If you plug something into the switched power outlet on the back of the av receiver and it draws too much power then the receiver will shut off and you can potentially damage the power supply in the av receiver for an example a powered subwoofer or another av receiver is not to be plugged into the switched power outlets on the back of a av receiver switched power outlets on the back of the av receiver are only for DVD players and CD players that draw very little power

Mine ended up being a bad monster cable going to my sub woofer. Unplugged it and receiver stayed on. Just replaced cable and all is well.

Any help on getting PCM off as has my sound decoder? Just started yesterday and whenever I use one of the Cinema Theater options it only plays from my center channel and not my left and right speakers? Have to use 2 and 7 channel inputs to get sound....not great for movies and sports! Have been trying everything the last 2 days from this 155 page user manual and can't figure out....argh! My front 5.1 speakers just stopped working with the rest of the speakers working fine. Speakers test fine. All HDMIs work fine. All settings checked etc. Will try this reset later today. Otherwise is there a simple remedy to this kind of issue? Thanks

@@etischer never mind. I fixed it. I have a sub connected so when I turn my bass down for my front speakers it stayed on. So basically I'm using just the sub for the bass and basically no bass through my front speakers.

I have the yamaha a4a. I turn it off with my roku but about 1-2min later the AV turns back on for about 20seconds then shuts itself off again. Kinda like it thinks I turned on the roku or tv but I don't. Any ideas?

My YAMAHA DSP A2070 amp randomly shuts off. I read Replace the 0.047uf 5.5V Supercapacitor...backup cap on the DSP pcb. I did, still does it. Any guesses?

Can you keep a volt meter on the power supply output, set it to record min/max, and see if the power supply is loosing voltage? Is the output voltage within spec?

I think that the problem came from the transformer or from a component on the power supply board but how can I identify it? :/

@@nostalgicdude You just have to trace back and see what's connected to the cable. Check the USB port for bent pins. Check cables for abrasion, or pinched insulation. If it works with the cable unplugged, what ever it powered must not be too important

etischer Thank you again, the cable came directly from the transformer to the front up level board, This model don't have usb connector. I tried the amp without this cable but no sound, I guess that this cable is very important in my case... No chance :( Best regards!

I have a Yamaha RX-V371 and I've held straight, tone control, and info, then turned it on, then turned it off, then turned it on. It says NO PROTECTION at this point but then as it says that it uses the protection to turn itself off. Any idea on how to make that no protection message true?

Late reply, but if you hold down straight and tone control and power it on, it will display the protection message if it last turned itself off due to protection. You can then also use the DVD and TV buttons to go through the menu to option 21 which is a history of the protection codes for the last few times the unit shut itself off due to protection. You can scroll through the history using the CD and RADIO buttons

I didn't have to clear faults, it just worked when I turned it on with the USB port 5v power cable disconnected.

Quick question is it normal for a av receiver to shut off when you crank up the volume on a av receiver all the way up to its maximum volume level

It wouldn’t surprise me. Many have a protection shut off to avoid blowing something up

My Yamaha htr 5440 receiver shuts off at full volume when I changed it to video auxiliary and when I had a audio source hooked up to the video auxiliary input on the front of the receiver any reason why this happens

Check the fuse. Check for 5 volts at the power supply cables.

Sorry, I just researched enough to solve the problem with mine. The manual is available free online, did you try the 3 button diagnostic mode and see if there are any faults?

The little red light is on when you press power it blinks. When I do the tone, info, and power button it makes a clicking noise then does nothing

I've had a 685 for about a month now, and it's a POS. Ridiculously stupid configuration that mandates having to use two different mobile applications. Really dumb wireless antenna design, and now this issue with shutting off randomly, but my frequencies are much longer. It's about every twenty minutes. DC = Abnormal DC voltage. PRT = protection? 197 means voltage measured during fault (0-3.3v = 0-255). H means high. You can find the repair manual with all the codes online.
