Im going through this right now! My 7 year old Yamaha RX-V681 has the red blinking life of death. So I just replaced it with a RX-V4A and it just did the same thing tonight! Going to try this ASAP on both and maybe return the new receiver since it’s in the window for returning still.

My Yamaha RX-A840 AV receiver was showing this same issue this morning. I did the steps explained at 6:40 mins. It still did not work. I opened the top cover and cleaned the dust using a home vacuum cleaner. A lot of dust was there. After that, I tried the steps again and the Receiver turned on successfully as shown in this video. Thanks a lot.

Do I need to make sure all the components inside are fine before using the owner manual protection bypass?

At least make sure you don't have ANY dead shorts on the output transistors, Check Base-Collector, Base-Emitter, and Emitter-Collector before power up and protection cancellation.

Where are you located? I have 2 Onkyos with no sound. Do you do chip reballing ? They might have the DSP chip bad.

They dont like too many volts from the mains. I installed a 12 volt bucking transformer inside to drop the incoming ac power. Starts everytime all the time now.

great video. question ...same unit, tv plays and speakerswork but every 10 seconds sound gets cut off for a second then continues... shortage? power issue? any idea?

Hi there, Hope you're well. I have a Yamaha HTR-5280 receiver that's stuck in 6CH Input mode. I can't find any way to reset the receiver and have already had it unplugged for a day to no avail. I never used 6CH input on it, ever. I was thinking it could be the 6CH Input button is stuck all of a sudden, or the 6CH inputs at the back are cold-soldered somewhere. Do you have any other suggestions? Perhaps there's a secret way to reset these receivers, IDK. There's no "straight" button on this particular receiver, unfortunately. Thanks for the help. Cheers!

I expected an output transistor short, but i was happy to be wrong :-D Years ago i had a Denon AVR2307 to repair, same sort of protection. The output transistors were very dead and some of the parts around them were cremated. Every pcb had to be removed to gain access, annoying.
