I encountered the problem you mentioned with the fan turning when I tried to tighten with a torque wrench. I tried inserting a screwdriver into the hole in the fan as you suggested but bent the screwdriver (it was a cheap one I guess). I ended up putting a 5 inch clamp around the fan so that the clamp screw intersected with the steel rod I inserted into the hole, that stopped the fan from turning and I was able to tighten it properly. As to whether I'll be able to get it back off next season, I guess we'll see 🙂
@fixitFlip7 ай бұрын
Good ingenuity. That's wild it bent your screwdriver.

After you remove them the first time i just now take the middle bolt out and hold the blades in my hand (or put them on counter) to undo the others. Easier on the back.
@fixitFlip Жыл бұрын
I have done it that way a few times as well. As long as you put a little pressure on the back of the bolts that works just fine.

I didnt get the select cut with two blades!! Will the two blade work on the ego that came with the single blade? Also what is the difference between the two?
@fixitFlip9 ай бұрын
If it only came with one blade then I would only use it with one blade. The motor won't be able to handle the two. It must not be a select cut model. The 2 blades will cut slightly better and select cut costs a little more.

Thanks for info on difficulty removing that first bolt. Seems mine's not coming off without a breaker bar. I have the single blade version (push/single blade) and on inspection think if I can't get the bolt off I might almost be able to file the blade while on the mower if I can keep the file angle proper. There's a lot clearance and space above the blade on the mower.
@fixitFlip6 ай бұрын
Interesting. I would try to just remove the blade before attempting that. If you don't have a breaker bar you could attach a pipe to your socket wrench.

Great job on the video!...I would have likely dropped the washers or nuts in the grass and spent more time finding them than replacing the blades! My lesson learned would be to do the blade switch on concrete or put a piece of cardboard down to catch my mistakes! Thanks for the info on torque specs!😄

I was having trouble with a lack of sufficient power to cut the grass even though the blades were turning (it just sounded "weak", tho it did cut somewhat better when pressing the buttons to power move). On a lark I took the blades off and found the fan had melted some in the middle. Any idea what might have caused that? I have another on order.

To be abundantly clear: if i have a brand new out of box Ego mower and it has the upper blade and the gator blade factory installed, i do NOT absolutely have to touch the blade assembly before simply mowing my lawn, correct? The additional blades they ship with the thing (LM2135SP) are optional accessories?
@fixitFlip7 ай бұрын
You do not have to change anything. Those blades work best for mulching, but will work for bagging or side discharging as well. Those are the 2 I normally keep installed.

My manual says to use the opposite torque settings. Center shaft bolt = 22 ft-lbs. “Blade set nuts” =36-43 ft-lbs. Select Cut XP 21”.
@fixitFlip6 ай бұрын
Just double checked. My numbers are correct, but there is actually a typo in the manual. Look at step seven and eight. They put blade bolt under both settings accidentally
@floobertuberАй бұрын
This is a known problem with some of eGo's documents. Some have the figures reversed. You want the 22 ft-lbs for the two blade-set nuts. 36-43 is the correct value for the center shaft bolt. I wish I could PROVE that, but for what it's worth, those numbers match both our LM3150SP's user manual, as well as the installation instruction page that we received with a new set of blades in summer of 2024.

Do you have the blades all the way flat against the surface behind them? And the washer in the correct position? It is also possible that you cross threaded the bolt when you put it back in.

Nice video, thanks. I just got the set of blades and looking forward to testing out the high lift during the fall. Great video. This whole issue of taking the nuts off of the blade (not the shaft nut) piss me off. It's the first time I'm actually angry at ego because I still have to take two blade nuts off (which I'll need to buy some pipe for) and then buy a torque wrench. I'm starting to feel this mower is a bit more expensive than I counted on overall not to mention hassle. Other wise a great company but I'm not wild about the taste of sour grapes.
@fixitFlip7 ай бұрын
I hear ya on that. Taking the 3 nuts off is a pain but it's what makes the select cut (2 blades) possible. Its what holds it in place. So you could think of it that way.
@JD-zh5nv7 ай бұрын
@@fixitFlip not sure I get your reply to my comment. One of the nuts is defining under the pressure of trying to loosen it (I'm using the right sized socket and a pipe but more leverage isn't working so I'm spending about thirty bucks for new bolts and nuts). It's bad design or if there is lock tite on the bolts it's put planning. I probably will go back to gas mowers once this egomaniac lawn mower or it's batteries die.
@fixitFlip7 ай бұрын

the nuts DO NOT have blue lock tight on the threads, those are blue nylon lock nuts, hence why they don't use lock washers anymore. look inside the nut and verify yours but mine have no lock tight compound on the threads only the blue nylon lock nuts.
