In today's Building The Shot (BTS) video I explain how I created this cool sunny portrait of the amazing Jenny Bee taken in June at the photo workshop held by Jeff Bennion. Had to overpower the sun which was possible with the Godox AD600 Pro and the Tiffen ND Variable filter that was held up by the Alter RFS system. =)

Love the final shot. You asked if you may have missed something. Possibly take out the ripple of the water caused by the person holding the ladder to the left. It really isn't that big of a deal and doesn't take away from your subject. Great video! Thomas

Fully agree! I thought about fixing it when I was editing, but ultimately left it in because the ripple added to the image in my opinion. The water being flat would be boring in a way. I composited another shot without the ripple and it lost a lot of flare to me.

I love off camera light, but those two natural lit shots prior to breaking out the light are my favorites! Sometimes it's best to embrace the sun. Nice work!

Breakthrough X4 ND filters are phenomenal. No color cast or issues. I use a 3-stop for all outdoor portraiture at zero effect on image quality. Brand and build quality matter with ND filters.

That place is amazing for shoots, you're lucky to have the opportunity to shoot there ! Great shot too btw :). Honestly though, You don't really need to shoot wide open to get that shallow depth of field in a place like this, shooting at F8 / F9 would have worked perfectly too, especially using a flash that already separates the subject from the background :)

I bought a tiffen variable nd filter and it gives me that horrible X effect. :'( its unusable.

also you chould of use the adapter head for the flash that way the heaviest part that is the body can be carried on the persons belt . that look so unsafe . you should be careful with the models and practice safety first . do not take risk . you are asking for trouble

TTL is inconsistent, so I just don't use it. Same as shooting anything other than manual on the camera, auto settings are inconsistent.
