FLAIR 58 X NANOFOAMER: How I Approach Workflow and Latte Art

Here, I take a look at the popular pairing of the Nanofoamer and the Flair 58. This is an incredible combo for those looking to manually create their beverages daily using the lever espresso machine and electric frother.
I pitch simply one should prepare one's espresso, heat the milk, pull the shot, froth the heated milk, and pour. Overall, with proper preparation, you should be able to knock out a cappuccino or latte in the matter of about 5 minutes from starting the water on the kettle to pouring your beverage.

I legitimately think you've convinced me to go the direction of the manual espresso machine between this video and the last Flair 58 one. That machine looks like a beauty, and like it fixes the workflow issues of most manual espresso machines. I've never been interested in manual, but I think the Flair 58 looks to be my next espresso machine 👌. I had been a bit worried about foaming milk for latte art, but this looks still quite doable with a decent workflow using a milk foamer like that. As always, thanks for the videos Lance 👍

Have you got the flair 58 and nanofoamer by jow? How are you finding them?
@Melnihr
@Melnihr Жыл бұрын
@@Tamimzzz I have, I pre-ordered the Flair58 and got it at the launch in Canada, and I ordered the nanofoamer with it. The Flair58 is everything I wanted it to be. The workflow feels great from start to finish, and I really like how much feedback you get and how much control you have while pulling shots. I basically never waste shots anymore, if I ground too finely I feel/see that right away and just let the shot bloom for a bit before pulling it as normal and that turns out fine. If I grind a touch coarse I pull at lower pressure and maybe make it a lungo, and that turns out fine. And when dialed in it's 😘👌. All of lances videos talking about different types of shots you can pull have helped me a lot with being flexible with pulling different styles. The nanofoamer works, you can make latte art with it, but it turns out for me personally, I don't like the feel of using it in my workflow. I still use it for other purposes, it's fine, but I had to keep my old/cheap espresso machine on the counter just for it's steam wand. Seperating the heating and foaming of the milk is an extra step I'm not up for first thing in the morning, and the foaming does take longer than I would like to get latte art level microfoam with the nanofoamer v1.

@SolidVauld thanks for replying in detail. I am also thinking of getting the 58 or 58+. However I have backed the Meticulous Espresso and milk and not sure if I should stick to it, giving the fact that It might end up getting delivered like next year. And do I have the patience to wait for that long. I don't have any espresso machine. So whatever i pick will be the first.

What kind of espresso are you using? When I got mine i practiced using a Nespresso machine for convenience, but I couldn’t get any art wriggles to form and was getting frustrated as hell. I figured out eventually that Nespresso creates too much artificial crema on top. It’s too thick and the milk can’t move through it. So as soon as I took a spoon and removed about 2/3 of the Crema I could immediately pour a little bit of art. Also, make sure you check Keep the screen of the nano really clean, rinse it off as soon as you’re done using it. If the milk dries up at all the solids really hard to get out of that screen and you need to use a toothbrush to do it. Just a little bit of clogging will really screw up the foam quality

Constantly on the hunt for someone as talented as Lance or Hoffman to do a video on their intricate findings using the NanoFoamer. But these guys play at a level that can’t easily stoop to NanoFoamer from $1,000+ machines. And I get that, no Lambo professional will do a review on a mid-class vehicle. I must become that man myself, the student of the NanoFoam, the pupil-turned-leader of greatness, crafting my own budget microfoam capable of competing at high levels……. Or, maybe the nanofoamer truly isn’t as capable as I hoped 😆. Though this art looks insanely good with the nanofoamer. That did bring hope.

Lance, did you heat up the milk in the microwave all the way up to the final temperature? In your other video about steaming milk using a steam wand, you said something about aerating up to the temperature of your hand and then whirl the rest of the way. So maybe the temperature wasn't right for making froth after microwave, and that affected the final "silky-milkiness".

Sure. Adding more air at the beginning will get more foam, but it still won't have that consistency to pass the shake test. Mostly because the integration simply isn't as tight as when stretching with a steam wand (able to create the microfoam in a different way that can't be replicated past 100F). This process was to get foam capable of latte art.

I've been dialing my 58x and I've had my go (without any technique reference) at latte art with microwave milk and a frother and it's been unsuccessful... But yours looks amazing. New fuel to dial the process! Thanks for the walkthrough

I have a Gaggia Classic 2011 and 2 Rancilio Silvias 2018 (one I use for steaming and one for brewing ) I know! I wanted a double boiler machine, but am I missing out on real espresso taste from not having a rotary pump?

You're certainly getting real espresso taste, just maybe not as optimal as it could be? I'm just obsessed with flow profiling.

there is one thing about these 'foamers' that no reviewer touches - the taste of milk: a proper steamer makes milk lose most of its 'raw milk' taste, while those foamers do not. For me this is a deal breaker - that's why I don't use them
