I have “fry-baked” canned biscuits like this for years and years (I’m 71 yo). I do pull the biscuits in half to cook. Soooooo good. Kids will eat as snacks after school.

My great granma taught me how fry biscuits when I was eleven yo ( I'm not 74 yo), but with her scratch biscuits ! I do make scratch biscuits occasionally but I fry canned biscuits . When we started camping when our children were toddlers , we had delicious biscuits ...fried & we had gravy , too. You can put a lid on the skillet also , helps them cook inside ...and as you say , low & slow ...lid or not !! Savory or sweet , they're delicious!! I so enjoy your recipes & videos...also hearing you talk , your voice is very soothing . Thank you 🤗🌻🐝💞🙏

My sister used to make the donuts back in 1972. She would glaze with a little cake frosting.. Her version of a Saturday breakfast treat. My friends mother would fry chicken, then added the biscuits to the same grease. These are still my favorite biscuits for fried chicken meal. Your fried biscuits looked yummy....adding the apple butter or syrup during the last minute or so..mmm mom good.

I don't have a video of it but I always make biscuits in a cast-iron skillet on the stovetop. My skillet is well seasoned and I don't add anything to it. I put the biscuits in the COLD skillet then turn on low heat, about 2 on my cooktop. I use the small cans of biscuits (5 per can) space them around the dry skillet (10" dia.) And put a lid on but, I offset the lid to let the steam escape so they won't be soggy. When one side is golden I turn them over very gently with a fork & tongs so they don't "fall". They come out crispy on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside. BTW, I love your videos. Thanks for sharing your talent!

We eat biscuits & gravy pretty often at my house and this last time, we tried cooking it this way and lord have mercy this is the BEST way to cook canned biscuits. The texture and taste is delicious. You can not get those sort of results in the oven.

The biscuits in an iron skillet reminded me of my late uncle's "cowboy biscuits," he'd make flour tortilla dough and cut them into biscuits and cook them in an iron skillet. It was camping food, but he'd make them at home too for a treat with butter and jam.

I have made something like this out camping but I use Bisquick mix. I use bacon grease instead of butter. Sometimes they came out crunchy and not as well cooked on the inside but while camping it tasted good anyway. I have also made fried doughnuts while out camping. Again I use Bisquick and fry them in bacon grease. Once they are cooked and coated with sugar and cinnamon most of the bacon flavor goes away. What a treat for kids and adults to have as a dessert after a long day of swimming and hiking.

I wasn't sure at first but now the results are superb. I didn't have a lid big enough to cover so I wrapped foil around the pan. waited for 5 min. and tasted one when cooled, delicious. My mom taught me to make the donuts but she never took out the middle instead she stuck her finger in the middle of the dough and strechted it out a bit to form a hole. So it's how I do it. Cooking stovetop biscuits is an early pioneer days everyday meal side. There are still many that continue to cook this way offgrid as well. They also would do something akin to a scone. They used lard as butter was hard to get unless you had your cow on the wagon trail.
