Jon and Jake go back to Normandy country and fight a battle using the new D-Day books. Can Jon's assaulting Shermans take out the fiesty Germans?

The new format is pretty good. I like how you do a close up of some minituares when switching turns so you can see all the detail and time put into painting them. Also that objective with the tank that says 'eat this Adolf' was really well made and looks amazing.

So, first things first, really nice video, with the captions and everything, really great effort put into editing and all that! Really entertaining battle report that I watched from beginning till the end! The are yet some major improvements to be made by Jake and what I’m about to say are just some advice and should be treated like that. So about the re-roll on the command stug I can see someone spotted that before, then the 105 should have been able to shoot the stug in the firts place as they should have been 2 inches from the infantry, so they couldn’t have been next to the linear obstacle that blocks los. But lets say that the game was lost already even with that solved. Jake never used blitz and shoot & scoot, and that is the main reason u play germans, the 3+ blitz + the fact that you can s&s after that was the key to keeping his stugs into the game. Shooting 3 shots at 5+ is always worse than shooting 8 at 4+ :) and anothe good tactic he should have used was to get 1 tiger on the onjective with 1 stug platoon, then move the command tiger with the other tiger, the HQ stug and the second Stug platoon to close the range with the 76’s. The it would have been an easy win. But again congrats for the great work and looking forward to the next game where Jake will use his germans to full potential. P.S. don’t assault tanks with infantry in the open. Btw both Shermans should have had 5 shots of defensive fire as now there is 360 for all mgs and 50call.

Watching Jake roll is sooooo painful. It might not be a bad idea to have another set of dice handy when your luck goes south like that. Love the battle report!

Great video as always, I like the interlude but I would shorten it a few seconds. John, I'd like to have seen you use the Sherman 105's to clear the infantry from that building, that's the kind of job they were designed for, with FP2+ and Brutal. Jake, at least twice you forgot to re-roll FP tests with your Tigers, that makes the 3 points for that card even more expensive. But more importantly, I thought your core formation was terribly fragile, even with the Fallshirmjaeger platoon being part of it, which I didn't realize until your dad mentioned it. I was going to do a "well ackshully" but I looked at V4 Forces, and saw that your dad was right, the infantry are part of the core formation, but quickly realized that the full Fallshirmjaeger StuG Battery has a lot of potential. With 2 StuGs in the HQ, two platoons of 4 StuGs, one platoon of 4 StuHs, and a fully decked out platoon of Fallshirmjaeger, it costs exactly 100 points. So this gives you 10 Fearless Veteran (FV) StuGs with FA 7 and AT 11, four FV StuHs that are good assault guns and template weapons, and 10 FV rifle/MG teams with fausts, 2 FV HMG teams, and 2 FV schreck teams. Against Shermans with FA 6 and 7 this is more than enough AT. The best thing is that all 100 points goes into your core formation, so you don't end up having your formation break when there are still 39 points on the table. Edit: So at the end of the video John mentioned wishing he had used the 105s against the building, so thumbs up on that.

Thanks for the thoughts Bill and you're right on. I should have kept the 105s up with the advance and used them to take out the troops in the building. I forget if there were many opportunities to use the Ace ability. I thought it was only on the Unit leader of the Tiger platoon, but could be wrong. But in general we all need to remember those special buffs we pay extra for. Thanks again!

On V4 Forces, it suggests that the whole unit benefits but when you actually look at the deadly gunner card it clearly says that it is the unit leader that benefits. That makes that 3 points even more overpriced IMO. What do you think of the pure 100 point Fallshirmjaeger Assault Gun Company list idea? I'm going to run it next chance I get. I think with some luck it could even work against a Churchill army.

@@mouser98k yes, terribly overpriced Tiger card, but we wanted to at least try it out. I love the idea of a complete company of Fallshirmjager Stugs, my only concern would be the absence of any type of recon. Spearhead would be great to have if attacking and the ability to deny your opponent from using certain terrain for ambushes. 2 x Pumas for 4 points or 2x Sd Kfz 234 (2cm) for 3 points would both be good. I think your StuHs can provide smoke bombardment so you are covered there.

Most of the terrain is from Battlefront/Gale Force 9. Some, like the hedges, are hand made.

So just a note....dug in doesn't do anything. It doesn't add a modifier. The modifiers are long range, gone to ground, and concealment. dug in gives them bullet proof cover

It looks like Flames of War has fallen into the trap of, "we want big, easily paintable miniatures, so screw the sense of scale provided by the miniatures on the table." I am not claiming that miniature wargames should use a 1:1 relation between miniature scale and ground scale. But this is starting to look like Napoleonic wargaming where a brigade is shown by a base with six, 28 mm figures on it - too far out of scale to suspend disbelief. Or perhaps I am ignorant and many instances of armor-vs-armor combat in WWII had units in line-abreast in nearly track to track contact and within a few vehicle lengths of opposing armor units.

First off, this scenario is broken as listed, but your changes at least made it a fair fight. Second (and minor), failed assault units fall back 2" instead of 4". Third, Jake should have charged his Tigers out to challenge the Sherman 76s and ignored any shots in the side or rear from the vanilla Shermans. The late arriving second platoon of StuGs should have gone after the advancing Shermans, they have advantage in FP and front armor regardless of how badly Jake rolls. Fourth, I knew the game would not be ending early due to the length of the video. Most enjoyable video to watch and loved all of the updates and changes that were made to it. Keep up the great work!!
