In the mid 1960's flamethrowers were still in the inventory of the Corps, so we trained on them in Infantry Training regardless of what MOS, (Military Occupational Specialty), we would eventually end up with. What surprised me when I first fired a flamethrower was the large amount of radiant heat the operator, (me), got in the face with each shot of flame. You would think all of the heat would be shot away from you, but the radiant heat went in all directions, even back at the operator.
