A 100 size is great but for those larger rods, I like the larger reels. They balance well and also you will have a great reel for other fish like salmon. Also, in several NW Kokanee lakes you can fish for Mackinaw also that might be close to 300 ft. deep. I don't think there is a disadvantage to the 300 size and there are few added advantages.

Angler West TV nahh the disadvantage of that big reel is the added weight plus the amount of mono puts the so much pressure on the reel that the inplates can collapse plus they cost more
