Fun fact: the Orion flare gun (the orange flare gun you see in some games shown here) is chambered in 12 Gauge, yes the same as a shotgun 12 gauge and can be used in a shotgun. However you can’t use a regular 2.75 inch shotgun shell in the flare gun and that’s designed to prevent that to happen. Also the flare guns ammo is tapered, (seen in the forest 3:22 ) and makes sure the actual flare does not contact the plastic barrel of the gun.

Flare Guns have Pros and Cons (ill edit if there was more) Pros: To send SoS to Friendlies/Emergency Units Used to spot/blind enemies (WW1) Cons: It will also exposed your location, allowing enemies to planned ahead

Not much, if you shot it at someone it usually bounces off, but otherwise it is a very very hot fire, so it will catch things on fire

It has a fair amount of force and burns very hot, it can bounce off but since it's so hot it will at least burn your clothing which will still burn your skin, if it gets caught then I'm guessing 2nd and 3rd degree burns

First flare gun I used in a FPS was turok 2 but my most memorable flare gun I used in a FPS was far cry 2 due to the flame system mechanic. BTW can someone make a FPS game that has glory kills & when triggering a flare gun glory kill the player avatar shoves the flare gun into the enemy's mouth, pulling the trigger & making the enemy into a live Jack O' Lantern. Oh & don't make it clean like Doom(2016) or eternal. Make it look like a struggle is happening just like the brutal kills in rockstar games manhunt, just pure visceral.

Because that's one of the few clips where the flare gun is used as intended. Hell, it doesn't even GIVE OFF LIGHT in most of these games! Without the Vangard clip we'd all figure it was a low-teir zombie killing device people put on every boat just in case one comes up in a fishing net.
