Denilson won a Copa America, Confederation Cup & World Cup. Robinho won 2 Confederation Cups and a Copa America plus titles in Spain and Italy plus 100 caps. Not bad careers. I would possibly list a Leandro Damiano before these two.

Damião was never a real contender to be a star in Europe. I belive he didn't started to play professionally very late in his life. For me this is the perfect list of players that when young were supposed to be massive stars in Europe. Robinho in first is the best example, he was supposed to be the "new Pelé" and was only an average player at best in all the leagues that he played.

Ganso was a genius who was unfortunately ruined by his ACL injury; Jô was truly a mediocre player, and I say that being a Corinthians supporter, where he was national champion and top scorer several times, so overhyped indeed; Keirrison’s downfall is just crazy to me to this day, I never seen someone fall so fast; Robinho also had a great career (I think his peak was for the Seleção), but also very reckless and never lived up to his true potential, but would call overhyped at all; Denilson was kinda overhyped but still a REALLY strong winger, and injuries + a bad representative also made it way harder for him to live up to his hype, which ultimately he never did.. even so he’s widely loved all around Brasil and cherished for our 2002 WC run

Ganso's problem were his injuries and the modernization of football. There is no room for a classic 10 that takes more than a few seconds to plan the game nowadays, he refused to adapt too, whether because of his knees or just being stubborn. And the craziest thing is that he won Copa Libertadores again, with Fluminense, age 33, playing almost as a defensive midfielder

Ganso is an interesting example. At the beginning if his career, he was actually quite good. But his early injuries just took away whatever athletic conditioning he had. His time at Sevilla was unsuccessful not because he "couldn't operate in high pressing european football" - 'cause he really could produce some magic while he had the ball on his feet - but mostly because his work rate without the ball has always been low and got ever lower after the injuries. At Fluminense nowadays he is seen as a defensive liability with the ability to produce occasional magic...

Ganso is the biggest fallacy of how tactical adaptability is a consequence of a coach and not the player's fault. He was a awesome playmaker at Sevilla, but his reputation was tarnished by the weak, limited and stubborn Jorge Sampaoli who knew more about asking for reinforcements than producing for the squad. He was one of the players who produced the most passes to goal during his stay, scored 7 goals and 6 assists in 28 games and had many important characteristics, due to his intelligence and quick reading of the game, even with physical problems, he was able to maintain an active posture with the ball and escape from many defensive duels

Denilson picked up more than 60 caps for Brazil over a 7 year spell. 12:40 point of correction, Ganso was not overhyped, he was only a victim of the massive shift in football to be more pressing and highly intense meaning his athletism let him down. Even Kaka would have suffered now to get game time because he wasn't the type to do a Odegaard or De Bruyne roles, the modern no.10. The way he plays would have worked if he lived during Kakas era
@cellyszn20
@cellyszn20 9 ай бұрын
@user-ir1wz4gl8x please bro, Ganso is no different from Riquelme, he was also regarded as not athletic. The point I was making was, like Riquelme and Kaka, physicality was not an issue back then. You cannot tell me that Ganso was not a great playmaker because he is flourishing in that role at Fluminense and it is no different to how Kaka and Riquelme played in their time. Bottom line is, the game has changed a lot. If I mentioned Ozil, you would have equally tried to cope despite everyone knowing Ozil didn't have much physicality to his game. If you want to talk about adaptability which I feel Ganso may have found it hard to do, then I may somewhat get your point but that's not my argument nor point.

Robinho ahhh! When Robinho was at Milan, I was errr lucky enough to pretty much see all of the matches he played in live. He was certainly not overhyped. The issue with Robinho was that I just don't think he cared all that much. During the season when Milan won serie an and Robinho scored 14, trust me when I say that he should've scored at least double that amount. He would squander so many easy chances. Game after game, he would get into good positions only to try a tame shot, or in most cases miss the goal completely. When he came onto the scene in Brazil, he looked like Neymar but even more skilful. He seemed to have that turn of pace and acceleration, but that somehow quickly disappeared when at Real Madrid. At Milan he was still a very good player, but I think his lifestyle is what caused his quick decline. I just don't think he was focussed, driven or intense enough to be what he could've become. But I wouldn't call him overhyped.

But Ganso, Robinho and Denilson were very good players, much better than most of European players, who are indeed overhyped. I saw Ganso play in the flesh. He was absolutely woeful. The opposition team stuck a man on him for 60 minutes and I never saw him pass the ball forward once. He was substituted and looked like he was about to cry his eyes out before he covered his head in a towel. How on earth he was touted as one of the next big stars of world football I have no idea.

People conflate flop for overrated. Hulk was good but... Hulk was 1000% overrated. Hulk only played in Japan, Portugal, Russia and Brazil. Yet people were comparing Hulk at the time to world class wingers like CR7, Robben, Ribery, Hazard...etc...etc whom did it in harder leagues. Fred(striker) was another one. Hulk has never made a Ballon d'Or nominee list, Uefa 11, World 11...etc..etc Yet people rated him as one of the best wingers in the world which is hilarious to me. I disagree that Kerlon was humiliating anyone .. if he could legitimately go through a crowded defence (except for fouling) then he discovered an unbeatable move.. and he should do it and should be protected by the referee. Then FIFA should change the rules to not allow more than 4 headers in a row like that.. end of.
