Apparently they just released Klipper firmware for the 5M series and made the designs open source. Big steps in the right direction! They also released a printable enclosure design for the 5M, will have a cheap accessories kit to make it work, and dropped the price to $299 which is quite a bargain.

have to say Nathan that your channel is my favorite 3d printing review channel out there. You recommended a p1s for my next printer(my second machine. still noob). even though I could get a K1 for 250 less on discount. I trust your judgement. You seem honest and fair. Probably why some companies stopped sending you product :D. Thats what this industry needs though. Fair and honest assessments no matter if they paint the product in a favorable light or not. Keep up the good work sir

Thanks! P1S is a great printer. Lots of happy k1 owners out there too. Now this 5M adds another good option into the mix 🤯 Ultimately the Bambu lab decision to make essentially 1 refined printer design (P1P, P1S, X1, X1C, X1E) means they can focus on producing 1 thing reliably, and focus all of their manufacturing engineering energy on 1 product family. It’s a smart move for sure. Creality is spreading themselves too thin, with some really good designs, and some really… outdated designs. Wish they would consolidate and make just a few great products

@gedeonang7077

Flashforge printers are pretty bad. They like to say "professional" or "industrial", but their non-actively heated enclosed printers only reach a chamber temps of like 40-45c, which is nowhere near even ABS print temps. Their print quality is also worse than a stock ender 3 and very slow. And yet they claim those enclosed printers reaching 40-45c can print ABS, ASA, PC, etc. Their beds are also very thin so they warp significantly. Many of their printers that costs so much don't even have auto bed levelling. Very scummy company. Edit: By print quality it's not just the visible quality, but also referring to strength. Their printers often underextrude or overextrude q a bit

@@gedeonang7077 Roughly 50 of my printers are exclusively from flashforge and their sub brands (voxelab/monoprice/voxeldental). Most of my clients are in the agricultural field. With that being said i print a ton of functional parts out of engineering grade materials. These parts are put through some very heavy usage. I would 100% consider Flashforge to be both "professional" and "industrial" grade. Most of he problem people suffer from are user error and i can confidently say that given my experience with these printers. All printers will break down and have issues at some point. I think cost is some what of a moot point as their target market could care less about price and they do offer bulk discounts for companies. I want to say a 3rd of my units were purchased as open box returned printers for far below their market value (average cost is sitting about $67 per machine).

I used to own a Adventurer 3. Major problem was leveling as my bed seemed warped. Multipoint leveling was bad. (Which will not be the case on the 5M) Also issues with clogged nozzle over and over. Had to spend quite a bit on new nozzles as these are not standard. But it was a quiet machine. I really want to like this 5M, but my past experience is holding me back.

Looks very promising. The recirculating filter is the right design decision, as it keeps the chamber warm and multi-pass filters the air (which is needed to remove a high-enough level of particulates and VOCs. I might have missed it. Is the nozzle hardened? The plastic around the hotend looks like a glass-filled liquid crystal polymer (LCP). LCPs have very high temperature resistance (and low expansion coefficients and high tensile modulii).

Just got my 5m Pro today and it came with 2 nozzles. For the older AD4s you had to buy a separate hardened nozzle that you could snap on. I think these stock nozzles are hardened as it says it can print CF out of the box but I will check with flashforge to confirm.

Have been waiting for this Nathan review. Easy hotend swap, steel rods, and the color touchscreen would convince me to choose this one over a P1S. Does it have a high flow hotend? I’d mainly print PETG, how is the PETG speed and quality on this one? Also, are the steel rods glued or screwed in? Can you use Prusaslicer, as advertised? That PLA stringing was worrying, though. If this printer can handle CF Nylon, I am very interested. I have been eyeing the Bambu P1S, as I want a printer that can handle nylon, and also just works with minimal fuss. That is the big thing, minimal tinkering and fuss just to get a print going and to complete without drama. I have an Ender for times I want to tinker around. The Bambu does offer more build volume in the X/Y, and can manage PC printing, with the hotter extruder… But those are nice to haves more than necessity for me right now.

@jasonh4534
@jasonh4534 8 ай бұрын
@@NathanBuildsRobots I wonder if it can go hotter if you edited the config, or if the plastic surrounding the nozzle/heater would deform from the heat. 280* should be hot enough for CF Nylon printing. The biggest variable for me, is if the thing works as well, or close enough to the Bambu. The slicer profiles and config are high points for Bambu. Basically little to no tinkering with settings and profiles to get excellent results. I don’t know if Flashforge has well done profiles available for this printer, so I am keeping an eye out for more reviews.

Are you using Flashprint or another slicer? Flashprint seems to fall behind some of the others for features. It is closed source from what I can tell, and that makes development slower. Also, since it is killer based, can you use the web interface options? How about access to the printer config files?
@NathanBuildsRobots
@NathanBuildsRobots 8 ай бұрын
Files were sliced using orcaslicer. They provide a profile that you just import and it’s good to go. Not sure about the Klipper implementation yet. When I tried to connect to the IP the web interface refused a connection. Not sure if there is some configuration I need to do, or what. Unfortunately for these early access machines the software and documentation isn’t always complete to be able to know all these things. Will follow up if I learn more

I sell and repair printers, one big objection I have to the Flashforge adventurers is the outrageous price of a mainboard. I can replace most boards for under $50 AUD but it is $200 for the Flashforge and it looks a lot like the one you just showed. I sell the Adventurer 3 lite for $275 and it is $200 to replace the mainboard.

Those nozzles are $40 a piece, and eliminates the option to upgrade into a CHT nozzle. I wish this was the Creality printer, so we could just use standard nozzles. Is this printer running Klipper? Or some custom thing? Edit: Nevermind, just saw that part of your video. Once the release the source code (required by Klipper agreement), I might actually buy it.

Does the printer accept Gcode files? The last Flashforge printers that we got at our school were Adventurer 3 and Artemis printers I believe and they were locked to using Flashprint and not able to accept gcode.

Thank you Nathan for the thougful review. I have been doing 3d printing in my classroom since 2016, getting my first printers from grants. My school district likes to supply flashforge 3d printers for their engineering classes in the past. Not taking gcode was a pain point for me since flashprint used to only export .gx files and not gcode which meant i was stuck using their slicer only. I am still using 2 makergear m3 printers to do most of my printing becauae they take gcode. Your review has made me consider this printer over the p1s for printing in the classroom. It does look like a nice well put together printer. The touch screen and front usb slot is super useful in the classroom environment.

Maybe I missed it, but is this running stock Klipper? I've commented it before, but the Bambu is a no go for me because of the proprietary firmware. I don't like how Creality is handling Klipper on the K1 either. If I could find a decent CoreXY printer running stock Klipper for ~$500 that I don't have to build myself I'd be happy.

Qidi X-Smart 3, or if you're patient, X-Plus 3 on a sale. The plus's were around $550 on eBay a week ago, but the 20% coupon stopped working. He did say this printer *is* running Klipper, but maybe he misspoke. If this is running Klipper, I'd buy it and replace the nozzle system so we wouldn't be stuck with $40 replacement nozzles. Also, not being able to use CHT nozzles is kind of turn-off, since you're stuck with whatever FF offers. I've had three K1's, and returned them all due to various QC issues and virtually no support from Creality.

What I'm wondering, is what the ACTUAL speeds are for it. Flashforge tend to undersell the speeds their machines are capable of. For instance, their Adventurer 3 Pro is advertised as 30-100mm/s, but can easily print 180-200mm/s with the right settings, so I'm wondering how much they're underselling the 5M Pro's speed.
