This isn’t an untested hypothesis accepted as fact/likely (like aether was at one point), Earth has be shown to be a globe with many experiments, repeated and verified by others. In the context of the OP, At this point, with the amount of supporting evidence, the responsibility for proof falls on the Flat Earther. Also, the main issue for flat earthers using the method you have shown is that they stop at the assuming part, so not particularly effective.

I have basic information and little tests to prove it but I cannot actually explain in detail how it works… I know that things in space tend to clump into spherical shapes, even granular materials like sugar in a bag. I know that I can run up and down a flight of stairs and watch the sunset or sunrise twice because I outrun the curvature of the earth. I can give logical information with evidence and science to back it up. Can you?

The funny thing with the basket ball test is that, if you scale it down, then there is probably more water on that basket ball than water on the Earth anyway. I have done the maths, that water is higher than mountains. The height of Everest is roughly 0.14% of the radius of the Earth. A basketball is about 120 mm in radius. If we find 0.14% of 120 mm, we should have the scale distance of the summit of Everest above the surface of our basketball. If we multiply 120 mm x .0014, we get about 0.2 mm. So, if you wanted to build the Himalayas to scale on the basketball, you would actually have a hard time making them small enough

When they ask a question like that, they are walking into a trap, they can be asked questions. You would of course have to have one in mind. Is the distance between various locations east or west to each other generally known? Yes or no. If no, express incredulity for their obviously silly claim. If yes, then is the length of the Equator being about 24,900 miles generally known? Hard to say no to that. Repeat for north - south directions, then point out on a flat earth the Equator would be about 39,000 miles. Then ask where those missing 14,100 miles of flat earth Equator are.

Having done some surveying, I'd point out to Del that his "spirit level" allows him to observe a level plane, which surveyors define as a plane tangent to the sphere of the globe at the point of observation. Anyone who's every surveyed a large project or planned a bridge of significant length understands this simple principle.

Totally agree, I've actually been lucky enough to sail around the world in my early 20s with my friends Matt and Vince, And in a flat earth model I obviously couldn't have. Also in a flat earth model navigation in general wouldn't work. In fact everything from flying and sailing to macro engineering and telecommunications only work on the current globe model.

Here's an experiment you can do yourself: wait for the equinox, drive 500 miles north, observe sunrise and sunset times, drive 500 miles west the next day, observe sunrise and sunset times, ask people in far-away places to do the same, try to explain the results using any flat earth compass/sun/geometry configuration, try to explain the results using a globe and known latitudes.

I have an experiment that anybody in Great Britain can perform with 1) a train ticket, 2) a decent telescope, 3) a tiny bit of math and google: Get your telescope and take the train to Dover, England. Walk to Shakespeare Beach and stand as close to sea level as you can get with a clear view of the Strait of Dover. Aim your telescope at France, specifically at Cap Blanc-Nez. You don't even need a vacuum chamber to prove the point. Even flerfers in the main accept there is an atmospheric gradient, the further away from sea level you go the less dense the atmosphere becomes. Air pressure at sea level 14psi, air pressure at 30,000 feet 5psi. Wherever you are the air is more dense lower than higher. That being the case if you drop any object it falls vertically downwards due to gravity. If there was no gravity the air below the object being dropped is more dense than the air above it. The object should rise vertically, not drop.

I have arguments with random people on the street on a regular basis when I confront them about their behaviour. I'd love to have Dell shove his camera in my face and ask stupid questions.... that would be an epic altercation.

I have no problem admitting to being triggered. I get annoyed by moronic flerfs spouting lies, misinformation, distrust and slander. Maybe I’m just funny that way but that sort of stuff just doesn’t sit well with me.
