Remember that guy Mark whatever his name is, from the netflix documentary? He even admitted in the documentary that he wouldn't be able to admit it even if he knew it was wrong. Because he's too far down the rabbit hole kind of thing, it would be too embarrassing for him, in front of too many people. People on his own side who would call him a traitor and a shill or whatever, and people on the logical scientific side who would obviously say "you moron, can't believe you fell for it for so long, and now you have no choice but to admit you were so stupid". And as much as many people would give him credit for finally admitting the truth, there would be a lot of people who would mock him for being wrong in the first place.

Everyone should be sure to treat Ranty with some respect. He may have fallen for the flat earth nonsense, but he's the only man big enough to go to the other side and come back out of all of them when confronted with evidence instead of just blanket denials and willful ignorance. That takes a genuine need for intellectual honesty and real maturity. Something that he would never have gotten from his peers on the other side. So let's show him some globe hospitality and treat him with the respect he deserves for admitting when he was wrong, going against his peers and most importantly, keeping intellectual honesty in science in a higher regard than his own ego. Something many of your average scientists can't even do, let alone a flat earther. I, for one, applaud him. It really does take a big man to make a shift in thinking like this, and do so publicly in the face of ridicule, of which sure he deserved a little, but I'm sure he's had more than his fair share by now having publicly been a flat earther for this long. So let's not perpetuate a culture of shaming a man who did the right thing above all else. And shame on you if you mistreat the bloke. He's a bloody legend in this Aussie's eyes. Thanks everyone for your comments. There are tons of false ideas about what the Bible says and this leads people to believe the Bible is unscientific. The Bible says at Job 26:7 "He stretches out the northern sky over empty space, Suspending the earth upon nothing." This is totally different to ideas of that time when people believed the earth was on the backs of animals or held up by Atlas. At Isaiah 40:22 the earth is described according to how it appears from space, as a circle. "There is One who dwells above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He is stretching out the heavens like a fine gauze, And he spreads them out like a tent to dwell in." The Hebrew word here certainly does not preclude a sphere. In addition, nowhere does the Bible say the earth is flat.
@TheSimCaptain3 жыл бұрын
@NonCoinCollector Hi NCC, as I said in my comment, the earth appears as a circle from space. I used that as an example of a correct view of what the Bible says. Some of the false ideas people have about the Bible relate to death. For example, the Bible does not teach that all good people go to heaven when they die. It also does not teach that there is a fiery hell where bad people are tortured. Honestly, I think it is more valuable to concentrate on what it does teach. By the way, what is your opinion of the Bible saying that the earth is suspended in space?

I'm not a mathematician so I don't remember the numerical formulas involved in perspective, but I've been an artist for almost 50 years and I've studied both classical perspective writings from the arts and spent decades just looking and understanding. The understanding of perspective in art was actually a pretty revolutionary discovery that was not trivial. I can say with certainty with the standards that the flatties call for using observable phenomena, that there is never a time on a flat plane when an object disappears below the line of sight from the bottom up. Simple geometry of straight lines makes it obvious. Imagine if the horizon of a vast flat plane were a tabletop. If you position the center of the pupil of your eye to intersect with the plane of the horizon, you will always be able to project a straight line from the center of your eye to the bottom of any object sitting on that plane. The object will get smaller even to the point of merging with the horizon when it gets far enough away, but only the perceived size changes, its position in relation to the flat plane it's sitting on, never ever changes. It can't. Sorry Dan, I have no desire to lecture to your already smart viewers, but I've been thinking about how to articulate this reality from what I know from my own field of knowledge and just wanted to try to describe it here where people can tell me if they see any holes in what I'm saying while still adhering to reality. Thanks, I love your shows.

Unfortunately, the same is true of the "Globe Earth community". There is a small kernel of truth to the criticism that "Globe Earthers" are indoctrinated. I hear / see many people speak in support of the heliocentric model merely because they have been told their entire life it is correct. Fortunately for them, it *IS* correct, and not just by chance.
