I feel guilty about my son’s head shape. When he was a baby, he spent a lot of time laying on his back because that’s what the hospital advised me to do. I was 22 and a first-time mother, and no one informed me about the potential issue with head shape and how to prevent it. After six months, I noticed that his head was flat, and I was upset that no one had warned me about it. Although his head shape has improved since then, it is still somewhat flat. I have carried this guilt since 2019, and I despise this feeling because I cannot go back in time to fix it. If I could, I would. I have become overly obsessed with comparing my son’s head to other people’s heads and questioning myself as a mother. It feels like everyone else knows about this issue except me. It was never discussed in my family, and I had no prior knowledge of it. Interestingly, my own head is also flat, but I was unaware of it.
@danielleterreblanche814510 ай бұрын
My first son also has quit a flat head and at first I felt guilty for it. But his cousins head is exactly the same shape (that cousin was a colic baby so my sister let him sleep literally on her chest most if the time which made flat head very unlikely.) So what I really want to say is that sometimes a flatter head is caused by genetics and not too much back-laying. So don’t beat yourself up mamma 🤗
@Ge0rgio7 ай бұрын

I had a 6 month baby, with a extremly flat head, and the doctor recommand the helmet. I didnt want that, i told her give me two month to fix it, if i cant then we will get the helmet. Here we are he is 8 month and have the perfect round shape without buying the helmet. I started a 6 month of age to let him sleep on the side with a pillow behind his back and a long pillow infront, i wanted him to switch sides but he liked one side so i let him only sleep on one side. But it helped, i went to his doctor and she said its perfect and round not something she expected in 2 month.

@Hannah Scott I'm in the exact same position. My 3 month old has had an obvious flat spot since very young (basically since right after birth). I've been doing guppy time to help with her neck and tummy time since birth. I did all of the things in this video but it's getting worse. Now it's so flat on the back that she won't sleep with her head to either side. I've brought it up at every GP visit and they don't care. They say it will get better on its own but I'm worried it won't.
@jimmyelson Жыл бұрын
Hey@@hanfran89, @Shali Shahee, keen to hear how your babies are doing now? Our baby has exact same issue! She prefers one side to the other. We went to see the Osteopath, who will give her massage and recommended a stretching exercise to relax the muscle tightness on her favorite side. We've also bought a pillow from Amazon with a hole in the middle - that helps that even if she turns her head to her favourite side, it won't apply so much pressure as she won't fully lie on that side of the head! I am hoping that the flat head she has on one side will improve but I wanted to hear if anything helped your babies so far? Thanks in advance

I just use a baby sling alot and do tummy time and skin to skin every day. It's important that mothers really connect with their newborns and not keep them strapped in their baby carriers all the time or on some swing, it is far too common and I don't even think half the parents that do it realize how much harm it does and that it is physical and emotional neglect.

My baby has his very own soft my pillow that he has slept on since birth. It keeps him on his back by cradling him just enough and it keeps him elevated because he had breathing issues as a brand new baby. I also used it for feedings. He has never slept on a hard surface and other than his pillow he has slept on his tummy on my chest 24/7. I know this is all said to be bad but as parents we find things that work for us and our children and I would never do anything that was unsafe for him. As a mother of 6 I have picked up tips and tricks to make motherhood a bit less stressful especially in the exhausting newborn stage. Everything I do I also run by his pediatrician for clearance.

my baby is going to turn 4 months in a week and I'm wondering how to help fix brachycephaly? All your tips were mostly helpful for plagiocephaly
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Hi K C these tips will also help with brachycephaly. At 4 months baby's generally start to move around a lot more (might start rolling, enjoying tummy time, starting to prefer to sit in supported sitting when sitting on your lap) which starts to take the pressure off the back of the head and limit the degree of flattening. Always good though to take your little one to the doctor to see if your baby needs to be referred to specialist.

My baby, even at 6 weeks old is very active during her wake time and just wants the over the shoulder hold and to walk around. Needs kept busy and see all the things. At 4 weeks she's been steadily holding her head up, albeit wobbly. I'm lucky (and somewhat unlucky lol) in that regard. I don't really get alot of the cute lay under the gym play time because she just wants to get mobile and upright so fast. Luckily tummy time is getting more bearable thanks to your video. Now instead of immediately crying the "I'm uncomfortable how dare you" cry, it's now begrudgingly babbling and sassy protests. Lol. I'm ganna have my hands full in toddler stage, oof.

Hi Emma, can you discuss about how much usually formula milk/breastmilk baby need either by their weight or months? How do we know that we overfeed or underfeed them? Btw your videos really help us lot. Appreciate it very much

My baby can move his head in both directions but just insists on using one side consistently (especially when sleeping) I've tried all the repositioning tips, but he just turns his head back to his favoured side, the only thing that has some success is me sitting next to him and turning him back each time, but as you can imagine that's not a very practical solution and means I don't get a whole lot of sleep if I'm watching him sleep every nap. We are due to see a physio, but have been waiting for weeks for an appointment.

@@tas1a it did get better as he started rolling/crawling etc, he's 13 months old now and it looks a lot better, you can still see a little flat bit but nowhere near as bad as it was and I'm told as they grow it evens out

Hello, my daughter is almost 5 months old. She has been having a stuffy nose ever since she was born. She makes a sound like she was distressed when she breathes at night. She also has been having a flu. Her doctor said her breathing is fine and it is just a flu. Can you tell me something different that can help aside from the things commonly found on the internet? Thank you

u can’t achieve a round head at this age, i have a flat head too and you either have to learn to live with it or get titanium skull implants which start at $10,000 dollars

Hi @TS MS sorry this is outside of my scope. I would recommend you take your little one to their doctor or a speech pathologist who would be able to give you advice and provide an assessment.

HI my son is 13 month old still he not walking but he holding wall and walking give some tips plz.... 😊
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like he is well on his way to talking. Once he starts to feel more stabile when walking along the wall, he will stop holding on and start to stand and then eventually walk. Just keep giving your bub the chance to practice walking when he is supported (walker if he likes them and holding onto the wall).

Hello Emma my baby is 5 months and he is crawling with hus back its it normal
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Esther he might just be kicking his legs and pushing with his legs which makes him move when lying on his back. He is still really young and has plenty of time to crawl the traditional ways. Always good to see a doctor in person though as they can assess your little one in person.

Can you have a video of what position causes flat head?
@EmmaHubbard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dendritica lying on their back and/or sitting in car seats or baby seats for prolonged periods causes the flatten to occur. Basically anything that applies prolonged external pressure on a baby's head. Remember though the recommendation is that baby's sleep on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS
@MyBlanket3 жыл бұрын
@@EmmaHubbard would putting the baby in the crook or the forearm when they sleep would that cause it? Also love your videos 😊
