I was able to order the pot alone on Amazon in July 2024.

I did something similar with my jetboil Zip, I cut four notches to align with my Soto Windmaster with the four support. The speed it boils water is faster, I've not tested the gas usage yet though.

Fun fact: the BRS 3000 burner tripod stand legs fits inside the cutout of the heat exchange module of the Fire Maple FMC X6, and probably others also. Works great, no modifications necessary, just leave it ever so slightly under fully open to insert, and it opens out fully to provide a secure hold inside the h.e. opening.

That's cool. Thanks for testing!

Great video , thanks. Just wondering if you think this pot will work with the pocket rocket deluxe ?
@FlatCatGear10 ай бұрын
The Pocket Rocket does not fit as the pot support arms are offset and not radial.

Great find! I just ordered the Petrel HX system on Amazon black friday sale for $55. I already have the WindMaster/3-Flex. My question is if you have tested the HX pot and WindMaster with the ocelot in wind? I'm wondering if that would have the ultimate efficiency for high winds (20+ MPH).
@FlatCatGear Жыл бұрын
I can't get my wind tunnel up to 20 mph yet. Also look at Part 1 where I show the Fire Maple Hornet II stove without a windscreen. Ocelot is the way to go with that one!

I saw your previous video and got pretty exited with potentially using the pot with my WIndmaster. So close! Too bad it's not perfect.

What’s not to like? I think that it is outstanding.

@@FlatCatGear Mainly getting the Triflex to fit sounds fiddly. Any chance you tried storing the Windmaster and a 100g isobutane canister together the pot?
@FlatCatGear Жыл бұрын
It all fits. I would just file off the retaining clip: easy peasy

@@FlatCatGear I found it to work fine even without filing anything off. No issues here.

You mentioned it took 6.5 g of gas..was it on full power? I have seen some tests where windmaster used 13g of gas to boil 500ml of water on a regular titanium pot in a room..

To optimize your your efficiency turn your stove down to 1/2 to 1/3 full power. Target boiling 2 cups in 4-6 minutes

They should have made the cutouts slightly larger to accommodate more burners without hacks. Would probably hurt performance slightly but a better compromise.

agreed!

I really appreciate this video. This is the exact setup I've been considering. However, you mentioned fuel usage, but what about boil times? How fast does this setup boil water vs. the suggested FM stove?
@FlatCatGear5 ай бұрын
Why does it matter? If you want fast, buy a JetBoil.

It is said that Soto does not recommend its stoves for HX systems because of the carbon monoxide poisoning problem. Is that true?
@FlatCatGear3 ай бұрын
I don’t measure CO, but this is what I do. 1) the Soto WindMaster with the Petrel pot has the same distance between the burner and the bottom of the pot so it is at the design center. 2) incomplete combustion will tend to leave soot, and I have not seen and evidence of that. 3) One way to tell of incomplete combustion is if when you lower the pot, the pitch of the stove changes, I have not experienced that. Finally, for best efficiency, run your stove at 1/3 to 1/4 full power and that also helps to ensure good combustion. Finally alway cook outside not in an enclosed environment. All of these factors make it a non problem in my opinion.
