Came here for an 07 Ford five hundred. Can confirm, those metal tab lock rings are a nightmare. Slamming on it with a hammer and punch, it's not even moving. I'm starting to remove material from the top of the fuel tank and paused to research. Looks like next weekends project now

Up here I just treat them like sway bar links, if I have to touch them they get replaced. But sometimes you can't get them, so I use the air hammer and hope there is something left.

Some Hyundai have an offset access hole in the trunk. Can get with an air hammer, but is a pain. The tools are nice to have. I have 3 different tools. Trusty 30" harbor freight breaker bar works every time. Good video. A lot of independent techs don't know about these tools.

On the steel ones up in the rust belt, air hammer them off and every pump gets a new lock ring, have had to just cut them off to get the pump out.

On the plastic tanks with the screw on lock rings. I always you the oil filter pliers. The jaws have like a cut out in them and it grabs onto it perfect.

@@flatratemaster wow really!? Around here when you call the dealer and order a "fuel pump" they also send you the "installation kit." come to ny and see what those lock rings look like! lol i usually use a air hammer with short bursts (yes i know i could cause a spark which in theory could cause an explosion) every one gets a new lock ring here. funny though as bad as i have seen some lock rings the tangs on the tanks seem to hold up.

Hammer and chisels all I ever use. I'm a Ford tech and work primarily on the trucks so all I ever see are the metal ones. Best way I've found is clean it good and spray Wd40 and it moves easy though I don't deal with rust here.

The plastic lock ring on Chrysler products, have to make sure it starts straight too. They are easy to crossthread not careful doing it.The metal locking rings like to rust away too needing to be replaced too

Early model Ford Focus were easy to cross thread too. You had to hold the spring loaded pump down while making sure the lock ring was straight . Pita

Can't vouch for the others but sorry to say from my experience that the first tool sucks for me. Ita made to grab onto the plastic tabs but the plastic tabs are so thin the tool hardly grabs on. With enough force it usually slips off. I usually end up taking them off with really big pliers. Each to their own though.
