Indoor flea markets tend to have high prices on everything and the vendors are rarely looking to cut a deal. I prefer outdoor flea markets where anything unsold has to be packed up in the car at end of day and taken home again. Those sellers are usually more willing to be flexible on pricing.

5:04: Lol, The first ever VCR I ever owned from the mid 80's ..... They didn't work wirth a damn, so I returned it and got a VHS instead of Beta. Much better, but the machine always kept breaking down. What do you expect for a brand name you've never heard of.....but $300 wasn't cheap for it back then !

one time (1989?) thrifting at a very dingy St. Vincent De Paul, I found a Mcintosh pre-amp for $35, (do not remember the model numbers (working 'unknown' because they did not know how to hook it up). Asked the clerk if they had any more stuff like this. He said they have two more in back, but they were 'just too heavy to move to the floor'. Asked him to show me, it was the matching power amp (MC 152?) and tuner, all in wood cases. Made a deal for $70 for all of it it if I carried it it myself. YES. Got the stuff home, hooked it up and it all worked (pots were a little scratchy). At the time was living in a small San Francisco apartment, could not use this fine stuff. Sold it a week later ($3500) to a company that refurbished this quality equipment and sent it to Japan. Regret to this day I did not keep it.

There were two great waves of vintage gear that hit the market. One when everyone just had to have a 5.1 HT system and the other, when the housing crisis pushed gear out of garages and into GW. Those were the days.

Whats the use if the stuff is over priced?
@VintageElectronicsChannel
@VintageElectronicsChannel 10 ай бұрын
That usually keeps me from buying anything. I typically wait until one of the vendors is moving out and they mark everything down 50% or more to clear out the booth. My view is that flea markets and vendor malls shouldn't be selling at retail pricing. People go there for deals. If there isn't a deal, I usually pass.

My wife doesn't agree with that. Lol. When I tell her I'm going to a flea market or thrift store, I can see the terror in her eyes.... she knows there will be more stuff coming home. Really cool video. A number of years ago after some research I really wanted a TOTL mid 90's JVC XL-Z 1050 K2 equipped CD player. A seller on the 'bay's bidding went up to $400.00 dollars. My son tried so hard to get me one, but just couldn't afford it at the time. So right after New Year's I walked into my local pawn shop and li and behold I saw one in great condition with remote for all of $14.97. I spoke with the manager and just to see, asked for a discount. He said how about $2.00 dollars off? I said sure and got it for a song. It sold new for $900.00 dollars and still plays CD 's good to this day.

One question... When I'm listening to a song on KZbin, how do I identify if that song is an audio file without loss of quality or if it's an audio file with loss of quality? Where can I see the specifications of the audio being played to know if it is, for example: a “WAVE” or “FLAC” format (without loss of quality) or if it is an “MP3” type file (where there was compression and loss Of Quality)? Is there any extension for the Chrome browser that shows real-time specifications of the audio being played? I visited KZbin's audio file guidelines and it says the following... “[...] Supported file formats: (1) MP3 audio in MP3/WAV container, (2) PCM audio in WAV container, (3 ) AAC audio in MOV container and (4) FLAC audio. Minimum audio bitrate for lossy formats: 64 kbps. Minimum audible duration: 33 seconds, excluding silence and background noise. Maximum duration: none “[...]”. Therefore, KZbin accepts audio files without loss of quality and audio files with loss of quality.

I love poking around flea markets and junk shops here in France, and sometimes find something of interest. My current stereo is a Leak Delta amp that cost me £3 found on a flea market in the UK. It was cheap as the vendor said it was kaput (the speakers were switched off!) Years later I found a pair (two pairs, actually) of Sonab upward firing speakers for a total of 8 euros. Soon after that I obtained a nice Thorens turntable with a Linn Basek tonearm. which was destined for the dump. So, a very good set up that sounds good (to me, anyway) for about €12. Bargain! An interesting channel, Cheers! I notice you have a UK socket on your bench.

Yeah, thrift stores have a problem today and it’s not just your location it’s everywhere they all priced her stuff based off of what I think they’re doing is going on eBay and looking at what people are asking. They don’t consider condition they don’t consider anything else and then they ask an arm and a legso they need to take their crap and just throw it in the trash or sell it for us you know for a few dollars or something but be asking $60-$100 or something it ain’t worth 10 bucks forget it I won’t support a thrift store any day of the week

I typically wait for the stuff to sit there for months or until the vendor is moving out of their space. If it's 50, 60, 70% off.... I'll think about it.

What was wrong with that Awesome tube tester @: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWbQooFjaJpgbtE I would have snagged that up immediately! I would have kept it. However, as a flip, it would bring in a pretty penny!

They wanted a pretty penny for it! I went back in an upcoming episode and checked out the price tag.... They're a bit high on it.

If you aren't going to look at the wooden interesting design (tube?) radio... Maybe mid-modern electronics would be better than vintage!

I actually stopped and looked closer at it. I checked ebay and they didn't seem to be worth much more than they were asking for it.

I listened to Steve (as a kid) during the Steve Wright In The Afternoon Days, up till early adulthood - and I think there were some similarities with Kenny Everett. Though - it turns out many, if not all characters were played by Phil Cornwell - I always thought the likes of Mr Angry was actually Steve himself! A warm, humorous, fun, zany presence who made you feel he was your friend. I remember he wasn't too keen on two of my favourites though - he had a real dislike for Depeche Mode (and he never really voiced disdain often) though he did praise them circa the Personal Jesus era. Lots of fond memories listening to Steve and I am very sorry to hear the news.

@@VintageElectronicsChannel It’s an acronym for “ Black Plastic Crap” which, primarily refers to the audio equipment primarily manufactured post-vintage era: ie, mid eighties onward.

You’re a junk collector, you can get it for free, by cruising your area in the evening, when bulk collection is placed curbside, for next day pick up.

@VintageElectronicsChannel
@VintageElectronicsChannel 10 ай бұрын
I don't charge anyone to watch my regular videos. All my videos the past year or so are 4k. Those who are channel members do get early access to episodes before they go live publicly. I'm normally at least a few weeks ahead producing videos, so there are some upcoming episodes that only members see until they go public.
