i painted out all of my linen matts with ralph lauren saddle black paint flat, the linen was just too dirty and stained to clean up. and they look amazing next to the gold frames and pulls them all together.

Macenna, I love watching you. I am going to give you a little advice on your cabinet doors. I like you have learned on my own through reading and watching others. Your cabinet doors are pine, which is very soft wood to begin with. While Glue does give some strength, but it is not nearly enough. You need to put 2 kreg screws in each side of the rails. You can hide the screw holes with pre-built kreg screws hole fillers, or you can make your own out of dowel rods. You are painting the doors, so you will not even be able to tell that they are there. I got a pretty 24x30 mirror in an ornate gold frame at our thrift for $25. Yay! I bought 5 matching HON file cabinets and turned them into Japanese "sliding door" style. Then filled them with 8 bins of gifted quilt fabrics. I found 6 feet of wood cabinets then filled it with my planting and sprouting seeds. I am always running behind on storage.

I have that same lamp. We use it all the time. We bought it new "48 yrs ago" exactly. I know that because right before we had our 1st child, we bought some furniture and a few lamps. My son is now 48.....so, I would say your new vintage lamp find is approx. 48 to 50 yrs old. 😉

Oh…. WoW that antique clamp is beautiful. My Grandmother had two in her home, but the one you seen at the flea market is so amazing. I hope you purchased it. They look so beautiful in a kitchen. It’s like the metal clamps we use to hold are project’s together while we are glueing and screwing projects together. I got one from my grandma and refinished it to look as beautiful as the one you seen at the flea market.

My only suggestion is if you can, either re-stretch or take the Apple still life to be re-stretched. It looks like the canvas might be starting to sag at the corners, having it re-stretched will prevent rippling in the paint and help preserve the integrity of the the canvas.

I kind of like the new lamp next to the painting, but even more than that, when the new ornate frame was near the apple painting, I was thinking a more ornate frame for that painting would take it to a whole other level. Yes, you would lose the attached lamp, but an ornate frame for that painting would be incredible!

I had a pair of those lamps in the 70's, They are Colonial in style and came with a clear hurricane lamp so a replacement should be easy to find.

I have that exact same lamp. Got at a yard sale in Maine. The seller told me it’s from the 1970s; released during a wave of Colonial Revival for the Bicentennial. Yours is missing the glass hurricane/chimney, which goes over the bulb/under the white glass shade. Mine has a 3-way socket, yours might also.

Are any of the cabinets the same size so that you could precut several of the pieces and keep them grouped into kits? Number the cabinets and assign a kit to each one. Then router each kit, assemble, paint. Kind of make your own assembly line. Can’t wait to see them all in place!

Dad had that exact lamp on his desk that my mom gave him. Yours is missing the clear (or you can get a frosted one) glass chimney that fits in the metal filagree center to look like an oil lamp. I want to say that it was originally sold by sears in the 1980's but not sure! Will look great with a bulb that has the faux flickering flame from the craft store.

We have a pool but it was kind of by accident- we wanted the house and it came with the pool. We were going to get rid of it because we didn’t want the expense and extra work. Then COVID hit and we were so happy to have that pool. We now think it’s one of the best features of our house, but it is expensive. Had to get a new heater last fall ($3k!) and will need a new pump this spring (more than $2k). And then there’s the cost to open, close, maintain and deal with problems like algae. It yes, we’re happy to have it.
