The vocal and her performance is much sassier and dripping sarcasm more than the original version and I'm all for it Especially at 2:18 where the lyrics changed to: "Have you any dreams you'd like to sell me now? Loneliness?" is like the dark empath version of the song.

Daniel: don’t get me wrong... I love all live versions of this, but it’s my least favorite b/c the tempo is off - too fast. That being said, while I do like the studio version, I like all of the live version better, except for the one in 1977. The reason I like the live version better, the ones after 1977, is because since she could no longer hit those high notes, she changed it to go low instead of high, I like it better that way. My favorite version of this song is the version from The Dance..... my second favorite version is from 1981 or the 1982 remastered version, they’re pretty much the same. If you haven’t heard the one from The Dance, be sure and check it out it’s fantastic. Also from the dance Gold dust woman is fantastic. That one’s fantastic for the little spinning dance she does at the very end, her trademark....., 🧙‍♀️ 🔮 🐈‍⬛

It wasn’t unnecessary. Especially in the 80s. The “chorus flanger” was the main ingredients sound effect for live vocals in 80s. Most singe like Ozzy Osbourne, Phil Collins, Prince used a flanger effect for their vocals around that time. Just saying...
