Obligatory note for this episode that in the Japanese this episode is a title drop: the "sousou" in "Sousou no Frieren" is a word that refers to both attending a funeral and burying someone; another way one might localize the connotation is to call her Frieren the Undertaker.

One of the best ways to write a powerful character is to have their power be not an important part of who they are or how they conduct themselves. In this way, you can almost trick the audience into forgetting they are a complete badass until the right moment.

A cool detail: Flamme's influence is often symbolized by something bright in the night sky, such as the moon behind Fern and Frieren in the last scene. The connection is that Aureole, the location associated with Flamme, means "halo", including not just angelic halos but also the halos of light around bright objects in the night sky.

Yeah, Frieren killing Draht without even letting him bargain is good for two reasons: 1) many anime like to draw out the talking in moments like that, but this show feels more grounded. 2) Frieren's understanding of demons is ultra clear - they're human-eating monsters, end of story. She's not interested in anything they have to say.

Before ep8, you may think the original title for the anime "Souson no Frieren" meaning Frieren is the one experiencing friends' funerals over and over, because "Sousou", in Kanji or in Chinese "葬送", means the process of burying the pass in the funeral. But when it comes to this episode, we suddenly realize that "Sousou" also means that she is the slayer for demons because another meaning for "Sousou" is to cut off or finishing someone's life. It also gives us much more chills when the original title of the anime corresponds with the title of ep8, which is "Sousou no Frieren".

Here the infodrop explained: Since the anime just recalled the title of the show with episode 08, I will try to explain to people who may not be familiar with Japanese why it is such a big deal, just a little FYI if anyone's interested. The Japanese title for this show is "Sousou no Frieren" which is also the title of episode 08. As you can see there is a short description "Sousou no" in front of our protagonist's name. Sousou (葬送) is a word that is formed by combining 2 characters each with their own meaning, 葬 "to bury" and 送 "to send off". Usually, the word has a sad and grieving nuance, but in some contexts, it also means "to kill/to end". At first, most people assumed that the title is like that because Frieren outlives all her friends, so she "sees them off" one by one. But at this point in the story, the demon reveals that it is actually a title given to her by demons because she has "sent so many demons to their deaths". People were SHOOK when this double meaning was revealed in the manga, it was just so cool lol I saw that English subtitles translated it into "Frieren the slayer", while still badass, it just doesn't fully show how the author played with words in the title, and I just think it's a pity that some people will not be able to appreciate it due to stuff lost in translation. IMO experiencing the realization that the title was not as simple as I thought was one of the highlights when reading the manga. But translation is hard, I totally get that. I'm assuming a lot of people already know this, but just in case, I wanted to create this post, because I really love this show and I'm so happy that the anime is getting so much attention. The anime is doing such a good job, and I look forward to it every week. Cheers. An Japanese told me, "To Send off" is ONLY used in this Anime. In a normal context it would make no sense. www.reddit.com/r/Frieren/comments/17ifamo/double_meaning_of_the_title_sousou_no_frieren/?rdt=44310

I always love this episode, and particularly the final reveal. Up this point, you've kind of been aware that Freiren is a powerful mage, but it's been kind of academic as she's spent most of her time so far being this sort of magical moe blob (bar the fight with Qual, but the way that was presented kind of still felt like it ran in an academic sense). The previous episode hints at it, but this is the one where it hits home that Frieren is absolutely stone cold deadly, but it's a bit of her she packs away out of sight most of the time.

The reveal regarding Frieren in this episode works so well because of how Frieren has been presented since the start of the show. We know of course that she's part of the party that killed the Demon King, which implies that she's a pretty powerful mage, but the story up until down had very much downplayed that part of her, and it rather focused on showing how she's this very wise woman, who's also extremely quirky in many regards, as well as rather childish in some of her behaviours, and how she's lacking in emotional maturity to a degree. All of that creates a magnificent contrast to the way she's shown easily and effectively killing Draht, as well as the reveal that she's known amongst demons as Frieren The Slayer, making the reveals that much more powerful.
@ChrisH4320 күн бұрын
And remember the Solar Dragon! Oh, he is "immun" to standard attack magic... In hindsight it was totally a teaching lesson for Fern and Stark (as she had all the info's from Eisen at that point) especially if you watched the dungeon fight.

First of all, I'm a little sorry if my English is a little strange because I don't understand English. Also, please understand if this seems like a long post. Also, I would like to pray for the repose of the soul of Ms. Atsuko Tanaka, the voice actress who plays the role of Flamme. Every episode was good, and even in the build-up episodes, it's rare to find such a good story, and episode 27 in particular is in a class of its own, it's an amazing and good story. Also, the meaning is different in the English title, Sousou no Frieren(葬送のフリーレン). The 8th episode was the title collection episode of this anime in Japan. Sousou(葬送) means "funeral" and refers to saying your final farewell to the dead and sending them off to the crematorium or cemetery. This has a double meaning as it is used not only for allies but also for enemy demons. By the way, the pronunciation of the "A" in Aura is closer to "ʌ" than to "o". Stark was pretty strong and cool, but Fern was cooler. The way Fern's movements overlapped with Frieren's was great. I think this should be called the scene where Frieren was cooler than Fern. I believe this anime has a deeper meaning than other anime like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen, which are like defeating an enemy. I hope that more people will watch this kind of anime. Many people there are only anime with flashy looks there is a tendency to want to see it. Also, YOASOBI's OP has an English version called "The Brave". I think it conveys the sadness of the lyrics. You won't understand the sadness until the story progresses to a certain extent, and you won't understand the sadness unless you understand the person's feelings. Please give it a listen if you like.

Apperently when she counts off the demons 'thats one down / two left' she's using the counting words for vermin like rats, instead of the one that is usually used for people or people like things. I think what that wasnt really talk about here is that when demon die, they also turn into ash like monsters. Which is why, categorizing them as monster would be accurate. Based on the entire anime season, human and elf are shown to not turn to ash when they are killed. Dwarf are not yet shown but i assume they too leave body as Eisen has 2 graves of his family outside his home. So at least human, elf and dwarf are not considered as 'monsters'. Perhaps there are more explanation on this in the manga or novel but i have not yet look into that. Just a fun observation so far in the anime.
