Man, so true, was 18, about to be 19, and had just graduated high school. Someone & something finally felt like it captured that moment in time in a song. If we only knew how the next 20 years was going to go. If I did … I’d definitely party more. 😂😂😂

This song is a true story. “Ricky” is still incarcerated. One of the band guys read about it in a newspaper and they wrote the song from that. Sebastian talked about it in a mag interview right before second album came out. Metal edge it was I think.

35+ years for what looks like voluntary manslaughter? Must have really pissed off the judge. Even murder 2 (If they called it that) rarely goes that long in actual time served. I was 18 when this song hit it popularity peak. Thinking about some of the stupid shit I got up to back then that, had things gone a bit differently, might have landed me in a similar spot and how I am a completely different person now. Kinda makes one wonder about the usefulness of those kind of sentences. Who is Rickey today compared to the angry kid he was? How would that be different if all those years ago, instead of squeezing the trigger, he relaxed and let his weapon drop? Over contemplation: Yet another side effect of getting old.

@@LN-Liferlove G'N'R but Axel was only a voice. James & Sebastian wrote lyrics and were very much involved with the music. James is MY favorite, writer, rhythm guitar, ALWAYS involved in EVERY aspect of a song. If he didn't think Lars & Kirk were playing something that didn't fit, he'd tell them, but respectfully. Axel was, is and always will be only for himself.

At thiis time, I was in my late teens, and my grandmother had given me her set of Tri-Chem paints, which is basically just fabric paint in a tooth paste like tube and a roller ball point. My favorite jeans displayed many hours of painting, my favorite band names hand painted in the bands of fabric that was solid enough for me to work on. God I miss those jeans lol. Edited to add : I wasn't into music like this in the beginning, I was into pop music and softer rock. My sister and I lived apart, me with our mom, and she with our dad. She came to stay with us for Christmas when I was 17 and she gave me this cassette. She said "I know this isn't your thing, but I promise you, if you put this on and just let it play while you clean your room or whatever, by the end, you will love it." She was right on the money. Skid Row will always hold a special place in my heart for this very reason. They were my gateway band into all things heavy. Hope you guys will dive into some Motely Crue soon.

I gotcha Marc, all on the list. I am the biggest Dokken fan and it's hard to decide which song to introduce her to. I am thinking It's Not Love because it was such a cool vid back then but then again, Dream Warriors or Heaven Sent...it's tough.

That is wild, I remember that clip of his audition years ago! Had no clue that is their new lead singer. It's a great story, kind of like Ripper and Judas Priest. That kid could sing for sure. Thank you Tony for the info.

Citing some rarely extreme-high note singers, Michael Kiske from Helloween and Joey Tempest from Europe ; but somehow I really like a gone too soon band Riverdogs (its lead vocal and rhythm guitar) in which Vivian Campbell joined at once. My gosh, the guitar melody writing was way better than Dio and Def Leppard in my opinion.
