Wow how cool is it to see commentary about one of my favorite of my dad’s songs on my recommended page! Loved your insights especially about hanging with them after their concert. Cherry Pie was iconic but he always loathed the box it put him in, this song definitely demonstrates his incredible storytelling abilities and amazing vocals. Thanks for including this in your series, he would be proud to see this 😊

I am not going to lie, I read your comment and cried. I think if you read through the comments, it's crystal clear that your father was loved. Of all the bands that I have met, interviewed or just hung out with, only a few stand our for being extremely gracious and your dad was one of them. Jani is one of my go to guys when I am asked, who was the coolest band you ever met. He is truly missed by all of us that had the privilege to hear him perform at any level. You made my day. Cherry Pie was Warrant's "American Pie." So many bands during the mid to late eighties got lumped into the glam-hair metal genre, because of the mass overload of bands trying to get into the scene. Never considered Warrant as one of them. Great music like this never dies, it just has to be passed on down.

Warrant punched way above the belt in regards to hair metal bands in general. Their sound was very tight, they were in sync as a band, and they were incredibly gifted in terms of story telling via song. I remember hearing this song when it came out and still enjoy hearing it today, it's a great piece of American music and culture from the late '80's and early '90's. Great to see younger folks embracing this genre of music. Cheers!

Hair metal is not a genre. It's a derogatory term that some no name music critic made up in the 90s, no one ever used the term hair metal back in the heyday to describe any band. Glam Metal perhaps, if you wish to categorize them.
@beyondbeleef1013 Жыл бұрын
Hair bands were great. It's only derogatory if that's your intention when you use it. I personally grew up in that era and consider it the greatest era ever. The only era as good musically would be Motowns heyday
@irocitZ Жыл бұрын
@@beyondbeleef1013 what I meant was and I'm sure you probably remember as well, in the 80s no one referred to Heavy Metal bands as "hair bands". That term was used in the 90s during the grunge era and not in a good way. I realize you might hear it a lot nowadays but never in the 80s. Most of those bands aren't fans of it either, it doesn't do them any favors referring to them as such.
@beyondbeleef1013 Жыл бұрын
@@irocitZ I'm 47 so I remember that time well and I get what your saying but I personally never thought of it as a disparaging title. I know some meant it that way but I always thought it fit pretty well for the era. I grew up in that era and loved it. As long as you don't mean it negatively I have no problem at all with you. As a matter of fact if you love that era as well I consider you a brother of sorts. I'm protective to a fault sometimes. I care too much. My apologies to you if I offended you

@@beyondbeleef1013 I'm definitely a fan, pretty much everyone who knows me knows what music I'm into. Let's put it this way, I have an original Headbangers Ball denim jacket. During the late 90s when the 80s bands started doing shows again my friends and I would go see them, bands like Dokken, Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, Quiet Riot and just about everyone else. It was like the flood gates had finally re-opened, since most of these bands were playing smaller clubs at first I wound up meeting many of these bands, just about everyone of them signed my Headbangers Ball jacket, so I'll assume we're brothers...🤘😛🤘

So many great Warrant songs... "Mr. Rainmaker", "I Saw Red", "Sometimes She Cries", "Bed of Roses", "Heaven", the almost proggy "Bitter Pill". Really good band. ... Overall in the genre, lots of story-telling songs/videos, I'm excited to where your reactions go. Poison's "Fallen Angel" and "Something to Believe In". Faster Pussycat's "House of Pain". Cinderella's "Nobody's Fool". Queensryche's "Eyes of a Stranger". Or deeper cuts like Savatage's "When the Crowds are Gone" and "Gutter Ballet". Or perhaps even Marillion's "Sugar Mice".

Warrant is the classic example of a band that didn't really hit their stride until the hits dried up. Their early stuff wasn't bad, and it certainly had mass appeal, but their music _after_ the limelight was just *incredible* . And yeah, this song sort of marked the beginning of that latter era. Burch, I feel like you might be a version of me in an alternate universe. 😄 I grew up on bands like these, saw all the live shows, knew all about the next big band before they actually hit, and when I went off to college I majored in radio communication & DJ'd on the college station. Then, I discovered "rotation" songs, and being that the school station ran a Top 40 format (in the early 90s) I just couldn't. Made it through the semester via a combination of bringing in my own CDs to play in between rotation tracks & pulling off my headphones when I had to play the crap I had to play, but that was it for my radio career (I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in history to play Public Enemy, Wilson Phillips, and Metallica consecutively on air...at the least I was the first!). Sometimes think about what could've been had I stuck with it, but I'm not complaining about what came to be as it was.
