Flight Review Malaysia Airlines - Airbus A330 Doha to Kuala Lumpur in Economy Class

My recent Malaysia Airlines flight from KL to London on the 350 was absolutely fantastic. Seats, crew, service was so much better than our Qatar Airways flights from Lon / Doh to KL. They were terrible. Very disappointing. Bravo MH 😊

Qatar airways should be stripped as best airliner by Skytrax and make SQ or JAL as one of the best. Both has amazing economy product despite its higher prices. Frankly, I don't mind paying higher prices for good product. I hate to be cheated. At the same time, MH should also be ranked as one of the worst as their fleets are so old and outdated. Have you seen their mini unresponsive IFE screens and their basic and unfriendly services on board despite its higher price bracket compared to the higher tier airliners. Pathetic!

@@raymondhee8239 well in February we flew kul/sdk/kul/lgk/kul and every flight was on time, super friendly crew, ife worked no problem and a hot meal on the longer sectors. The 350 flight Kul-Lhr was great. Amazing crew, comfortable seats, decent 2xhot meals with snacks inbetween. They were 100 times better than our Qatar flights Lhr/doh/kul. The crew was robotic. Unfriendly and falling asleep infront of us during landing. A big no no! Once MH has all their new aircraft they will be back up to where they once were

@@raymondhee8239 Indeed some of Malaysia Airlines aircraft are old but back in 2008-2013, when Malaysia Airlines operated worse planes than now, they were consistently rated as a 5star airline & had the best cabin crew. It’s not so much of the aircraft or the IFE, though this may play a small role but very much the service onboard. The old Malaysia Airlines 777-200 LR had the best economy class legroom in the industry at one time.

@@RB-rp6ud U mentioned 10 years back, now we have a new generation who are more calculative and trendy and we expect more than service onboard. MH must move with time and not harping on past successes. Ratings includes plane age, cleanliness, IFE system, food, lounge service and airport facilities. All MH cannot provide a decent service at the moment unfortunately.

@@raymondhee8239 Indeed you are right, MH has to provide top notch service to meet customer’s expectations, what more when customer’s needs have changed. I have flown on several carriers since the resumption of travel & MH services have greatly improved, especially in 2023. The onboard catering has improved a lot while more movies are now shown. The current IFE is definitely old but that will change when new planes come into service from later 2023 onwards until 2026. On the other hand, I was disappointed with the level of service on SQ, despite their higher fares with cutbacks in the economy class(business could be different) such as catering, amenities & even crew interaction is not as what it used to be. It’s more like rushed service even in the long haul flights.

Happened to me the same but it was a swap on my return leg from KL to London via Doha. Initially I wasn't impressed that Qatar Airways put me on a Malaysia Airlines flight but what I wasn't expecting that I have received a way better service on my Malaysia Airlines flight than I have ever received on any Qatar Airways flight.

I haven't flown MH since 2009. They used to be such a great airline and it's quite sad they haven't been able to fully recover from the incidents in 2014. I heard their A350s which they fly to London are a lot nicer so hopefully they'll eventually upgrade the rest of their fleet. At least the food looked good! Also, my word that was A LOT of coughing. I flew with them yesterday from Doha to KL and I enjoyed their food (veggie option) I was alone in a middle row and there were also sick people I wore a mask the whole time tho, I gotta say in terms of space it's almost the same or just a touch more than Qatar airways. The entertainment system is very outdated I found it cute and vintage lol

I think the flight attendants should have insisted on people to wear masks, specifically the passengers who seemed to be sick/coughing a lot. The airline should train the staff on this. Good to see you in another trip report!

The food onboard was a lovely surprise. The Biryani did not look like much but OH BOY it was delicious and there were plenty of big chunky lamb pieces at the bottom of the rice (forgot to film that). Malaysia never disappoints when it comes to food! Thanks for watching 😊👍

I have flown Malaysian Airlines a few times since 1984. Use to be a brilliant airline but in the last few years standards have slipped and as you say, economy class looks worn. I now tend to travel by KLM or Emirates.

The coughs were very common from the middle east to KL sectors (jeddah, doha, dubai, etc) because of the Umrah pax.. they were not used to harsh arabian weather, thus got down with the flu... will get worst during Haj period on which every row would have 2-5 "coughers".. I would avoid taking ME airlines during this period. lol

Finally got to see an MH video from you and glad you enjoyed it despite the sluggish IFE; lucky SQ ended the use of this system after retiring 7 older A380s and all remaining A330s/B777 Classics! The same SQ A380 flew me to Sydney and back recently, and I enjoyed both my flights and holiday! Hope to see you visit New South Wales in Australia one day!

I enjoyed this report very much, but the wet, phlegmy, hacking coughing was starting to make me feel uneasy, and I am in the comfort of my own home. We were not impressed with the fact that these passengers were allowed onboard, they should have at least been asked to take a corona test (we obviously don´t know if they were asked - but do doubt it). We were uneasy indeed, not so much for corona but more for our holiday being ruined if we were to get infected, that is why we opted to wear the masks. We had hoped that the Flight Attendants had asked the coughing passengers to wear the masks instead but that did not happen ;-) The Flight Attendants were very aware of the coughing passengers but perhaps the law states that they cannot ask them to wear a mask? On the other hand the coughing passengers (clearly ill all of them) could have shown their fellow passengers onboard some respect and chosen to put a mask on themselves... that did not happen either! Thanks again for watching and for sharing your opinion 😊👍

Honestly as QR frequent flyer, I really hate this QR-MH cooperation. We are forced to take MH for KUL-DOH-KUL route when booking with QR. MH hard products and services are no match to QR.

We are sorry to say that we agree with you! WE enjoyed having the chance to try Malaysia Airlines but in our honest opinion they were not as good as neighbor airlines such as Singapore Airlines or Thai Airways. We also expect to fly with Qatar Airways when we book them. We are hearing more and more about these types of switches lately, also aircraft types being changed on a route so that special seats that have been pre-paid (Economy Class) just don´t exist. You are absolutely correct in your observations Andy! We believe that the passengers who were coughing (and they were coughing a lot) should have been asked to take a corona test before we left the gate - it was VERY clear to fellow passengers and staff onboard that there were ill people onboard!! At the very least, we could not understand why onboard staff did not request that the obviously ill passengers wear a mask... Thanks for watching ;-)

Where to start with this one lol . If I had walked on the plane and heard people ill or coughing wearing a mask I would have actually had respect for them. To not wear one was wrong and maybe Malaysia airlines should have enforced it on those sick . Negatives aircraft old tired and entertainment not great . Positives food looked good and tasty staff seemed ok but not noticed any interaction with you but I don’t know . This is a good report because you’ve showcased the product and would I chose it based in this video no I wouldn’t fly them . But from London direct I believe they use the a350 so maybe better.

I flew Malaysia Airlines last week from KL to Auckland. It was a 10 hours flight. I used to fly MH a lot but have not done so for a good 5 year+. Unfortunately they have failed my expectations in almost all fields for this recent trip. The aircraft is old. No USB charger. Movies are mostly 3+ years old. The flight status screen is not available so you don't know where you were during the flight. Seats are so small even for a skinny asian. Instead of 6 toilets in the middle and 2 at the back, we got only 4 toilets for the entire economy class. Food was plain and horrible! I would say it was almost like travelling on a low-cost carrier but with a 'more expensive than average' ticket price. Very disappointing !!

30 years ago MAS happened to be a good airline but not now, nothing interesting about MAS. Lousy service, especially the food and the entertainment program.

I don’t like Malaysia Airlines new safety video, very cringe and unmatured. I missed Malaysia Airlines old safety video😢 rather than wasting money by creating new safety video(which is not good) , why not they use that money to refurbish the cabin.

From an ex cabin crew, the new safety video managed to grab attention. Thats what matter the most, even to u is cringy or what not. Airlines can make classy good video, but that's just that. People will get bored and in the end, no one would pay attention.

@@Surf1100So it seems you’re basing it off in terms of planes. Singapore Airlines have 737 MAX’s and they’re worlds best airline… Malaysia Airlines have also ordered more A350s and 20 A330neo’s. They’re also considering a second single isle aircraft. Cabin crew are friendly, foods good, quality of product is good…I don’t see what’s bad. 🤔
