Being drunk saved those peoples lives. Only a drunk genius would think of such a radical solution.
@stellarwind1946Ай бұрын
Not necessarily. The plot is loosely based off the Alaskan Airlines Flight 161 disaster. Flying inverted is an aerodynamically accurate way to correct a nosedive caused by a broken horizontal stabilizer. Of course landing the plane safely from this maneuver is a whole different story.

He was a fully functional alcoholic. In this movie’s scenario, his drinking had ZERO effect on how and why the plane crashed. The fact that ten other random pilots couldn’t recreate an outcome where even one passenger lived, outlines the professional job he did in landing that aircraft and saving as many people as he did. The answer that put him in prison, should have been simply, “I do not know where those bottles came from, but they had absolutely nothing to do with this aircraft falling out of the sky the way it did and nothing to do with those who lived and died in this accident.” Great movie nonetheless.
@FalconFlyer7521 күн бұрын
At the end of the day he still opted to drink and consume drugs before flying a plane It’s a betrayal of the trust placed in him He knew what the rules were and what the penalty would be if he broke them and did it anyways Yes he might be the greatest pilot in the world but reality is all trained pilots can safely land planes as long as the maintenance isn’t shoddy If you let a pilot publicly declare he drank and consumed drugs and then let him get away with it, that only emboldens other pilots to do the same and stop respecting regulations that save lives It’s bigger than one man

"The FAA and the NTSB took 10 pilots, placed them in simulators, recreated the events that led to this plane falling out of the sky. Do you know how many of them were able to safely land the planes? Not one. Every pilot crashed the aircraft, killed everybody on board. You were the only one who could do it!" WOW what a horrid thing to ever put to script. Alcohol makes you a better pilot I guess? Or Whitaker is SO good even drunk he's a better pilot than everyone else in the world. What BS. Pilots aren't magically created by god like top gun suggests, sure there is a base level of talent needed but a lot of it is TRAINING and learning procedures and practice. This is just a ridiculous concept, if the NTSB had a scenario for the flight, what happened initially and what state the plane was in and if no one could get the plane on the ground as it had in the accident ... then they would assume that had something wrong, either the scenario or something missing from the simulator. People wouldn't conclude "magic pilot." People have DIED in actual crashes when pilots have been compromised by drugs or alcohol. Continental Express Flight 2286 is a good example. The whole idea of this movie seem pretty offensive. I'm sure it was written by someone who thinks that a deer was the reason they crashed and NOT the beer they had ... Edit: I haven't seen the film ... is this one of those hollywood films that for some dumb reason has the NTSB as the bad guys ??? Couldn't forgive "Sully" for that one ... They're the NTSB their whole job is to investigate accidents, find causes and investigate other risks in airplane travel and to prevent future accidents to make people safer. How can you make them the bad guys?

@@SYDAirlineEnthusiast Again with the very very stupid. One of the things alcohol does, BEFORE IT AFFECTS BEHVIOUR, (improves confidence = reduces fear and increases recklessness) is REDUCE REACTION TIME. Alcohol doesn't just affect the brain and judgement, it affects muscle control. This damages ones ability to control things like cars, planes, and heavy equipment! So even if you judgment is not impaired, you confidence not increased, you're going to be reacting slower to things like deer walking on to a highway!
