I’m honestly not stoked he charged a young girl and father almost $700 for a gt aggressor pro. That bike is $400 brand new and all he did was swap out some used parts. Seems like $650 was a bit of a stretch. Especially for Seth he doesn’t need to actually make a profit on this series.
@dvs6203 жыл бұрын
@@reboundrides8132 Bike is $500 at Dick's Sporting Goods. The fork and 1x upfront take that bike to $650. Add all the other parts, even used and you got yourself something that would cost more, even accounting for depreciation if they had done it themselves to a new bike. I bought a 2019 GT Avalanche Sport for $400 a few months ago. I'm going to replace the fork, headset, wheels, pedals, grips and tires soon. For the normal price of the bike, it's not worth it. But considering a new GT Avalanche Sport with a 2x (vs a 1x that I have on it) is $875, I have the credit built into the bike to do all that and still come out cheaper than a new one with better components. That's what Seth did, sold them a bike that, while more expensive than a brand new one, would cost much more than they paid if they had bought the components themselves, even at used prices, and upgraded a new bike. And they're not getting a new bike with an air fork and 1x drivetrain for $650 or less.

Nice that the dad actually mentioned how his daughter intended to ride the bike. Hi Seth, love this series of videos. If you’ve ever seen any of my former posts, you’ll know that I’ve been building and repairing bikes from $50 to multi thousands for many many years. It’s fun to watch you transform these bikes. So…this is the second video I’ve seen you do one particular thing, that in all of my years and professional experience, is a no-no. Square-tapered bottom brackets do not get grease on the spindles. With only 4 contact points, over time it will round out the crank arm square hole. Give it time and it will happen every time. And not even years and years, but much less. If someone rides a lot, it won’t take too terribly long at all. I also understand that it happens no matter what, but grease in that one spot will definitely speed up the process. I’m not criticizing you by any means, I love everything that you do. Just passing on a tip from an old man who’s been doing this since the first Stumpjumpers were all the rage. How far we’ve come. These days you can spend close to $20,000 for a super top tier bike. Wow! You make me wish I still lived in Hendersonville.

Proof that, with clever buying and a friend with a good parts bin, you can indeed upgrade entry level bikes to last longer into your riding career.

The best part.... You were a major contributor in helping to get another mountain biker on the trail!! You never know, she could be the 2030 World Cup Champion. No doubt she is now the envy of her "riding buddies" AND made a cameo appearance on Berm Peak to boot. Nice work, Seth!!

Loved it! I did like the Box upgrade but there is still room to balance it: decent hydraulic brakes (currently it has mechanical which are bad for shredding), brand fork (even a RockShox Judy would do the job) that is serviceable, a brand crank set - not a Chinese brand. In my opinion the pedal upgrade was not necessary.
@urieelSEptim3 жыл бұрын
yeah, the brakes would be my first upgrade

Wow, thank you again for reminding me that you are a size of a middle school girl. Did not expect you to fit perfectly into that bike

"Did we make a profit?" Nope or barely, but you got a sweet video out of it. I love this series.

All in all, he's still making a profit off that sweet sweet ad revenue.

@@wyattevert6835 Yep. That's exactly what I was insinuating ha. It's a good series.

This was a great video, Seth. Love seeing the kids with big smiles on their faces. Good job, Sir! (although the Fox decal... tsk tsk. lol~!) I really enjoy this series, btw. Keep up the good work.

I am guessing he divulged the fork was not genuine Fox.

I have watched and learned so much from Berm's clips, I can legit-ly say I can fix pretty much anything and pickup an inexpensive hobby [minus the tools] of fixing my and friends bike. for weekend entertainment, I have sold few bikes I had purchased for my use for little to no profit after all the parts were replaced/enhanced. I got the joy out of fixing and riding all kinds of bike since March of 2020. I now have three nice new Quick 5, Tarmac Sport, and Marlin 6 and love them all and plan to keep them even after WFH ends in few months.

I'd love to see an expensive high end flip. It would be interesting seeing the challenge of deciding what components to upgrade/swap since high end bike parts are such a personal choice for riders looking to spend that amount.

easy anything 10 speed and up , upgraded rear hub , also weight ??? carbon cranks are nice other cranks are nice too . hydraulic brakes .

Those forks are in fact unethical. The crowns are so easy to snap, I’ve literally seen people send the Uppers through the lowers. I have a set I refuse to run after taking it apart.

Thank you. The base model suntour fork is way safer

if you want a safe and good fork its smart to buy a fork from some known brand.

i agree. i live in a 3rd world country and those things are killer forks. they are an accident awaiting to happen. i've seen ones snapping too. and their victims? mtb newbies who are in it for the looks.

Sorry bro - I think you topped out - I don't see being able to flip any better than you did on this one... as a father of two young girls you made my night when that little girl screamed with excitement on her new bike... good man....really good man.

This might not be so related to the topic of this video, but this reminded me of why I fell in love with mountain biking. This really inspired me to take my ol' trek out again and I can't thank you enough. there is so much knowledgeable insight in this video, and I will definitely use it to modify my bike to my liking. again, I can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work up!!
