In this video I restore 200 year old rotten and eaten by woodworms chair that was in pieces when I found it. It looked like something that washed up on a beach rather than a piece of furniture...

As a professional furniture conservator in private practice for over 50 years, I want to say that I was impressed with your video, your humility and the results. I started watching this video because I thought the chair was beyond repair. You did a fantastic job. I feel your pain when the crest did not fit, but you solved the problem. And I appreciate your shot of the Old Brown Glue, which I developed and now sell internationally. My best wishes for future projects.

Old Brown Glue (hide glue) would have been a good choice for the other glued joints too (but not the repairs) , rather than polyurethane. I buy it here in Canada from Lee Valley.

What a nice thing to say to him. That must mean a lot coming from a professional. I too love that he tries so many different techniques. And it is because of this channel that I have seen your product and intend to purchase some for a restoration of a chest of drawers that I have had in storage for too long.

I was so impressed when you indicated that there were techniques you’d never done prior to this chair…we’d never know if we could be successful if we never try, right? This is one of my favorites so far, you did such an amazing restoration, turning a piece of garbage into a beautiful piece. I would definitely love to have it in my apartment.

I just found your channel and I'm absolutely smitten! You do such wonderful work! I could never be as creative as you are, you are constantly surprising me with how you turn these sad old items into something beautiful and unique! I LOVE that you choose to focus on refinishing the wood and very rarely paint, because as an antique lover wood is gorgeous to me!

It's always a pleasure to see your meticulous work and to watch you problem-solve along the way. I can hardly believe the before and after are the same chair. Well done! (Great spindle, too!)

Amazing display of skill, patience & understanding of the goods & materials you have to work with. This chair was firewood to 99% of people but, if the chair could thank you, it should thank you for being one of the 1% of people who look beyond what they originally see. You are an amazing man to watch as you apply your brilliant touch to yet another disaster & come up with an amazing restoration. It looks good enough for another 100 years. Hats off to you mate, cheers, Don from south Australia

Fantastic job, Jay! I admire the way that you met each challenge this project threw at you, and now you’ve taken your first “turn” on a lathe! I think you did quite well. If you’re interested, there are tools or add-ons for the lathe that enable you to exactly replicate the profile of a piece, such as the spindle. I don’t what they are called, but I know they exist. Again, great work!

I love how red the finish came out! Beautiful! Sometimes, brown is boring. This unusual chair needed an unusual look. 👏

I don't know if you're even going to see this, given that this was posted a year ago, but I only found your channel a little while back and I am currently watching a lot of your older videos. I love them all, but somehow this one touched me even more. It's just beautifully metaphorical to see something that seems broken beyond repair fixed and turned into something beautiful with tender love and care. Makes me feel strangely hopeful. :) The work you do is so impressive, and it's a joy to watch you approach these projects the way you do. :) Shoutout to Hugo for encouraging you! Hope he's still doing well (and you, too, of course)! ♥
