@mark6755 жыл бұрын
@@EuanTodd you been watching tom stanton? Lol
@rcbinchicken5 жыл бұрын
@@EuanTodd Hmmm, not quite. From what they're saying in the video, it's more to keep air flowing over the *motor*, to keep it from overheating. The net effect on the prop will actually be a negative one as it will create a bit more turbulence through the blade disc, though the tradeoff is clearly worth it given they didn't fry a second motor. Coanda effect would be if, instead of the spoons, they'd just smoothed the rear fuselage gradually down to a smaller diameter, which the air would then follow.

@@EuanTodd it is fun how you throw in random aerodynamics terms into your comment
@EuanTodd5 жыл бұрын
@@azgarogly I mean the first part was how I interpreted why they added the spoons (the less turbulence infront of the prop the more thrust and the less the motor has to work) + the bonus bit was preety much just reference to tom Stanton who just made a quadcopter that uses the effect.

that's some crazy speed on a budget. I've been experimenting with using a monokote iron to flatten the edges of foamboard, it kinda melts and squishes a bit if you get the temp right and i think you can make a more aerodynamic plane out of it for some high speed runs like this...

With the distance between the two frames, and the time between the breaks you can measure speed much safer and more accurate. Not to mention that visitors could also rate their contraptions with it.
