In a Behind the scenes video, Richard Donner said that they had kept the kids away from the set with the pirate ship. So the reaction you see on screen is the actual first reaction of them seeing it.

Crazy that they built the ship full sized and they offered it (for free) to museums and theme parks but no-one accepted so it just got demolished. The part that never fails to crack me up is right at the beginning when Chunk's pressed up against the window, then he gets covered in milkshake followed by, "Awww shit!" 🤣

I go back and forth between this and The Monster Squad as which one is my favorite 80's kid movie? Usually, Monster Squad wins because I was just like Sean, except a little girl (I am currently wearing a tshirt that says, "I'm in the goddamn club, aren't I?")- but one of the things I think that makes these movies so magical to us is that the kids actually act and talk like kids do when adults aren't around. Films made now are obviously written by adults who don't want the kids to be in real danger or to have to use more mature language.

Once again enjoyed your reactions to this 80's classic. The plot reminds me of an old "Little Rascals" or "Our Gang" short, where Spanky plays hooky from school to go treasure hunting in a cave with his gang of friends. Check it out for your own enjoyment if you can find it. Also, Jen, if Nick hasn't seen "Throw Mamma From The Train" you need to have him sit down with you and watch it for a reaction video sometime. Hitchcock inspired if you recall.

Anne Ramsey had such a massive career starting in her early 40's. Always working doing bit parts in film and television as well as actual named characters. Though she had passed from cancer in 1988, she had worked so much 3 or 4 movies came out the following year with her starring in them posthumously. Living up here in Seattle I've gotten to visit Astoria on the Oregon coast and it's gorgeous. And I had my picture taken at the grade school there where they filmed the 1990 Schwarzenegger comedy Kindergarten Cop. I believe parts of The Howling was shot there too. But you guys need to go visit there. Thanks again for a fantastic review. You guys make my smile with your reviews and your relationship. Nick, you're so luck to have such a great Mom. This is really eclectic trivia, but, as a decades-long fan-girl of Leave it to Beaver - - here I go - - I believe that Corey Feldman's "Mouth" character (especially the Spanish translation bit and his general demeanor with adults vs. with kids; and his jacket) was at least, in part, inspired by the character of Eddie Haskell (RIP the legendary Ken Osmond). Mouth is very Eddie Haskell-ish. And if you're familiar with the Leave it to Beaver show, Eddie pulled a "Spanish translation" bit on one of Beaver's friends that caused some trouble for the Cleavers. In 1983, Corey Feldman played Beaver's son in a made-for-TV movie (really cute movie; worth watching if you're a fan of the original show) called Still the Beaver. He had just worked with Ken Osmond on that movie when this went into production.

Great Reaction To This Great Classic Movie, Guy's
@jonathansmith86727 ай бұрын
The actor who played Sloth, John Matuszak, was actually an NFL player for the Oakland Raiders and he was a HUGE guy, only 4 inches shorter than Shaquille O'Neal. About four years after Goonies, he sadly died of an overdose (He overdosed on painkillers and alcohol at the same time) at a young age of 38. Also, like you guys said, it was actually a REAL 105-foot long pirate ship that they built at Warner Bros' Stage 16 (The biggest soundstage in North America). The kids weren't allowed to see the ship until they saw it for the first time on camera. When the cameras started rolling and they popped out the water, turned around, and saw the "Inferno" for the first time, the kids got overexcited and they actually CUSSED (Josh Brolin recalled in an interview on Conan that he exclaimed "Holy sh**" when he saw the ship) when they weren't allowed to. So they had to film another take, which is the take you see in the movie.

I went to a camp as a kid here in Scotland with a kid who was the spitting image of Chunk, he even did the truffle shuffle, he said he was Canadian, swear it was the same kid!. Nobody ever dies in an 80's movie?!, not seen that many then have you?, Rambo films , Nightmare on Elm St series, Friday the 13th series, to name a few.
