For over hand serves at my school, no one knows what top spin or floaters are except my two friends who play travel. We were taught to just toss, two steps, then hit it. Almost everyone serves a floater. It sucks so much cuz it’s so hard to receive

After a month and a half of learning, I finally learned how to a float serve. Now every time I do it, I get this amazing feeling of satisfaction when I see it floating randomly in the air with absolutely no spin that increases greatly when I see the receiver having trouble deciding how to hit the ball, which then feels EVEN better when I score an ace. Thanks man, you really helped me! Next stop, jump serves!

I didn't really know anything about volleyball but everyone told me that I should try it so I did, I was immediately good for my first season. My serves were good, my passes, my sets (although I didn't know how to hit). Then I started watching haikyuu, it gave me so much motivation I can't even explain. I practice every single day and I never give up. Haikyuu really did something to me and I don't know what it changed, it gave me something, and now I'm unstoppable. Everytime I walk on the court everyone somehow knows my name, every serve, pass, set, there's people yelling my name and I don't even know who they are 😳 I'm going into 8th grade and I've had my jump serve for about a year now, I've learned how to hit and I'm still practicing them every single day. I set to myself around the house and I've become obsessed. I love to learn from my coaches and I just love volleyball in general :)) Thanks for reading my story 😂

Honestly. I've watched a lot of your videos and everytime i watched one, combined with what i watched and learned for haikyuu i got better, yet i never came across this video. Ever since i started volleyball (around 1 and a half year ago) I've been struggling a lot with services and i figured that i was lacking strength (I know it's stupid but i thought that my technique was good. P.S it was trash). My point is that after 20 minutes of trying everything that you said in the video (not even joking), I managed to get my first floating serve. (170cm middle blocker here btw). So all in all, thanks a lot. This is one of the happiest moments in my life!!!

I'm really looking forward to learn this serve, I've been playing for three years and I really wanted to be able to serve effectively. It was kinda weird with my previous coaches, they didn't really teach us how to serve and then they blamed us for "giving away" points at tournanents, because we were all beginners and couldn't really get points by spiking either. We were playing in 19U but most of us had only played for two or three years, so it was no wonder that we couldn't beat thr others, who have been playing for 6 and more years. Now they split us up into those who they thought can make progress faster that the others and those who were too old to play 19U. We now have a new coach and we are learning everything the previous ones didn't teach us, stuff like an overhead serve, spiking and blocking.

But my problem is, I wait too long to hit the ball and I have trouble finding out when the right time is, but that was probably because I threw the ball up too high.

It's not on the hand. It's on the shoulder and right leg. Strength comes from right leg pivot and shoulder with strong palm.

Hand strength isn’t it. It is your shoulder, core, and leg. Arm strength can help, but it isn’t nearly as helpful to work that out as your shoulder, core, and legs.

Great videos, they are very helpful. The video provides the step by step instructions from start to finish, including body position, leg angle, arm movement, everything. Thank you. When I serve, somehow it ends up with a top spin almost all the time. That could be because I may not be keeping my palm stiff. I will try the suggestion in the video and keep my palm flat and stiff rather than loose. Hope that will help.

PLEASE READ THIS thre is a very easy way on how to serve (even if you don't have any power in your hands😂) you just throw it low and than do 3 or 2 steps and than just use as much power as you can. i had a lot of problems before i figured that out.

Hey I desperately need some help. All of my years of volleyball I've been approaching the steps as a lefty when I'm a righty. Nobody has ever told me until I noticed it not too long ago. I've practiced the steps as a righty but I just can not apply it to when I'm hitting.

Hey #CoachDonny This video was insanely helpful, but I was just wondering on how to practice the impact point of the ball and the bottom of your middle finger. When I hit it, it's usually like a spike, or it hits the bottom of my palm. The ball doesn't get much spin but I just can't hit it at the right point. Do you know anything that can help, or should I just keep practicing my serve until I can finally hit it correctly?

Hey! If I just want to serve overhand (not float serve), should I also contact the ball at the base of the middle finger ? Or at the heel of the palm ?

Today, I managed to serve overhand for the first time! For those who are wondering, I used the heel of my palm. I'm going to keep practicing until I can serve easily, and then, one day, I'll try to learn how to float serve with this video. Everyone, keep working hard :)
