Love that canal, from the sandstone cuttings, exquisite canalside houses, lovely pubs, to the most convenient (trolley to the boat!) canalside Tescos at Kidderminster. First time you rise up in the lock at The Lock Inn it comes as a shock when you suddenly find yourself arms length from your audience.

So sorry we put you on the spot the other day, you must have thought who in god’s name is this, but we’ve been watching your blogs since you started narrow-boating and it just took me by surprise when we were out walking that you were moored up not just half a mile away from us. Then when I saw you in the village I just had to say hello, you must have thought who is this mad woman, but it was lovely to meet you it was a shame fran wasn’t with you. But thank you for stopping and saying hello. Have a safe journey. Rob and Judith from lady lane wharf. X

My wife and I lived in Kidderminster for a couple of years in the first house that we actually owned. I taught in the local grammar school (King Charles I school). Some years later we were doing the Stourport ring in a hire boat and I did the classic one foot on the boat and the other on the towpath. Splash!

Your footage of Kidderminster lock (03.35)was especially poignant for us. We have just spent 6 weeks back in this region (from Tassie) and stood on that very spot, admiring the canal and the church in the background. My friend bought a house in a hilltop village in southern Italy and the back half is a cave. He has one window over the door and the bedroom is above the kitchen/dining area. There is a WC in the corner of that room which has a shower that would look tiny to a narrowboat dweller. The original inhabitants didn’t have indoor plumbing. The “living room” is under the bedroom in the cave. The two of us stay there a few days at a time but large families lived there over the years. It’s all relative isn’t it?

In Australia in the centre the opal fields at Andamooka and those places have what we called dug outs,, and people live in houses simply dug out of the side of hills and go down under ground. NO thankyou very much .. very similar to these..
@terenceseymour-tf8rptassie7255 ай бұрын
I was thinking of the Andamooka underground houses while watching the video. The homes were literally dug on the opal fields while doing the mining and extra rooms added as needed . There are even underground hotels are not there? I think I have seen caves cut into rock faces in Europe somewhere else maybe they were Shepherds Caves can't remember where possibly Spain .

I think you were wise to leave that mushroom on the tree carving. I once had to speed a good 70 miles up the freeway to take a bag of mushrooms to the hospital that my stepdad's father had left behind. He thought he knew everything about mushrooms, but got sick after snacking on some he'd just picked. Doctors needed to know what kind he'd eaten to treat. He recovered. Lost his status as a colossal know-it-all though 😁.
