"and I can almost put it back together" Such a subtly brilliant lyric. What a well crafted song all around, wonderfully vague enough that it will always have some matching to current events somewhere but not over the edge.

Without the image of a somewhat dated cell phone, I thought this song and accompanying video may have been released this month, not 2005. Thought-provoking, deep, and disturbingly cautionary.

If you want a song to lyrically dissect, try the Mariners Revenge Song by the Decemberists. You'll have fun with that one.

I agree with the power in this song. Its criminally underrated even though it had its moment.. it has a story very similar to “we didnt start the fire”, where it SHOULD be a timeless anthem.. but they mustve just not dropped it in that exact moment where it wouldve really caused an emotional ripple effect. Or perhaps, Americans have just become too accustomed to hatred and ripping apart childish innocense. Thats a scary thought.. but this SHOULD have been a song better taken care of production wise in terms of when to drop it.. it NEEDED to hit the worst moment of a political flow to tie into the idea of history repeating itself.. its a real shame and frustrating.. 🧚🏻♀️

Denver band. Rocking the mid 00’s. The album this is in is very socially aware and political. Very smart too. Will have to listen again,

I think this is better than the 'the meaning behind Handlebars' video. Great job. The power and message behind this song has had a big impact on me.

Love the video, and the lyrics were really good. Never heard of the Flobots before. I now know *every* band, thanks in no small part to DS9.

This was great man. this came out right after we invaded iraq and there was a lot of antiwar sentiment at the time. this song was intentionally commenting on the `war on terror` and how we couldnt be trusted with absolute power, and the blind disregard we were exhibiting to everyone who might suffer as consequences of our actions. theres a thread about arrogance that runs through the whole thing, even though innocent at first. hes an american kid but hes a metaphor for america. the song opens with the kid bragging about being able to ride with no handlebars. and then says `look at me, look at me`. like a normal innocent kid. and as he comes of age he sees technology advance to do seemingly anything we want. but instead of doing good things with it, he decides he can justify any action with `because i can`. that power is the only justification needed for anything. they were all direct commentary on those wars

People just gonna ignore how this mirrors current events to the T? “No handlebars” and leading a nation from a microphone (or Twitter or whatever it is now) and being in a “tower”.

I actually don't think of this as an actual person, but a metaphor of America itself. Most of us think on the micro-scale of being an innocent kid, or a young small business owner and family man, super proud of minor accomplishments... is that what America is? Or is America the corporations and commercialism and desire to seek wealth? Or is America that giant military and corrupt politicians that could save the world from famine and plague, but often choose to bring war and suffering and could end the world with a push of a button. The idea of America is dependent upon your perspective of it. Good thing about art, including music, is that it's pretty free to interpretation. That's just mine.

Kinda rappy? I think that's what the "flo" is all about in "Flobots. I saw them live in 2010. Truly amazing musicians and activists.

The only reason it’s there only “hit” is because there shit is to positive there a group that try to bring out the best in people and bring community’s together and you wouldn’t want that spreading around
