So...I understood that you gotta tell them to step up but...when do you begin to telling them to wave?
@riddhiiyengar83044 жыл бұрын
You get them to step up with one foot. Then you slowly keep pulling your hand away but still making the up motion. Then eventually make the up motion without offering your hand. Just keep saying 'wave' during the whole process, or you can teach them to remember that motion to mean wave. I'm not EXACTLY sure this is how it works, but it's my interpretation. Hope this helps!
@spyrootur20135 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but hoping this helps someone else out! Start saying wave AFTER they've mastered it, FlockTalk mentioned something like this in another one of her vids. I'm not exactly sure what you say at the start... but I'm assuming you say nothin'!

+Flock talk I really need your help. I hope u reply and help me out. I have these small birds I am sorry but I got confused in this that ppl also call them budgies, love birds and parakeet. u may know the famous disco parakeet. my birds are like him. So I have a white bird Zeebi (I copied coz I love that name) and a green one ,Biko. They both come along quite well. The problem is I dont understand that zeebi although has learned to go through an empty toilet paper roll and knows how to shake hand. She still is so addicted to the cage and recently flies off to my window and cage. I always remove the cage. When I remove it, Biko starts chirping and zeebi chirps back. I get so annoyed at zeebi flying again and again where her cage is and when I remove it even then she flies to the same place and always falls after bumping. Does this mean she doesn't want to get get trained?? Another thing, if u kindly research which type of bird is mine, tell me and also tell me that the male one who is biko,, he gets alot of feathers off, does that mean he is old? And zeebi has a pink peach nose while biko's is blue.. so biko is male and zeebi is female right And lastly pls pls make a three minute video giving tips to keep birds warm and how to know when they are cold and hot. I dont have the room temperature thingy btw. Thanks alot I asked u coz I love ur videos I subscribes and I find u reliable. I know I disturbed u so sorry but pls answer my query. I am just a twelve year old with zeebi who is nice and bites bit atleast she isnt AS scared as biko. wait. I need tips on gaining bird trust. thanks . And whats ur name??? Thanks again :-) :-)!!! I'm stuck. My parrotlet is holding onto my finger beak first, pulls my finger in and then lifts her foot and grabs onto the finger within a millisecond. I can't get her to not grab the finger with the beak first, because if I don't reward her for a couple of tries, she gets frustrated and bites even more. Spinning and flipping was a breeze to teach, but wave is a real struggle.

I just found out a way to teach your parrot how to shake. I figured this out myself! Gently tap a target stick on the foot of the bird until they step with one foot. (make sure your bird knows how to step up! Mine didn't, it was pure curiosity) Repeat a couple of times until your bird is understanding what to do. Also, slowly move your finger closer to the end each time. Now, remove the stick and do it with your finger more times. Wait until the bird is used to it when they keep their foot on your finger. Now you can start shaking! (gently) Practice makes perfect! Good Luck

@FlockTalk3 жыл бұрын
There’s a bunch of different things you could try for this! 1. Reinforce staying still when the hand is presented for a couple reps so they’re less motivated to quickly jump at you 2. Do some drills utilizing verbal Step Up cues so they differentiate when you ask for a step up vs. A blank hand 3. Similar to number two utilize a more dynamic physical cue, have step up be the presentation of two fingers, wave be the presentation of one. Reward for step ups only with two fingers presented, do some drills to help them differentiate the difference by rewarding stillness when other numbers of fingers are presented I’d start with those to build up better stimulus control over the step ups then start working on actually teaching the wave!

I’m pretty sure you already figured this out but I’ll put it here just in case anyone else is having the same problem! What I did with my bird is that instead of pulling away I clicked whenever he put one foot on my hand. After he got the hang of putting one foot only I started to tilt my hand slowly until it was in a vertical position. What this did was it made him reach for my hand as if he was trying to step up and him reaching was him “waving”. I rewarded him every time he “waved” when he saw my hand in a vertical position. After he got the hang of it I waved and he tried to copy my movements. Now he does it when he wants something or when I tell him to. I hope that made sense and I was able to help someone!🙂
