It took me so long to teach my bird to wave because after I taught her spin, she just kept doing it. But now, whenever I pull out her treats she immediately spins and waves and waits for her treat. It’s so cute 💕 ps. love the new fandom name

Late reply, but just take it slow. Birds are prey animals, so we need to think from their perspective (imagine yourself getting taken from your home and over to live with strangers that you don’t know). Don’t think this helps much, but I hope it does in some way.

Try doing some thing chill and clam on the first few days then after a week get them used to your hand And let them examine it Then try making it hope on perches after your bird is okay if your hand is around the cage then try Making step up ! This is what i did to tame my budgies Please don"t push them or force them they can easily Lose the trust You should also try placing the millet beside your finger so it's more tempting for them to step up! I also suggest you get a bird friend for him (depends how long you are usually Out of your house) birds are animals that are playful and love company (my bird named lemon was lonely and after we got another bird for her she started going beside him and never left his side! I went to check on them yesterday and they were together) but yeah! Sorry if this is like a essay but I really want your bird to have a happy long life! Good luck for you

Mine is not as smart as people in the comments birds, the only tricked I've managed to teach her is targeting. Tried for 2 days to teach her the first step of wave but she just gets angry at my finger and not getting her treat :(
@OnPlanet._Mars5 ай бұрын
I know this comment was long ago and she may have learned the trick, but I assume she was stressed out about it and did not want to continue in the training, or perhaps she shows no interest is learning it😭?? I am not a professional and do not own birds (just yet), but that’s what I just think- hope you have a good day anyway though! Also might I ask where you have gotten your bird?
@Emilie979485 ай бұрын
@@OnPlanet._Mars Thanks! I worked hard with her, she never could manage that trick, some are just a bit too hard for her and she's impatient, but she did learn a few other more simple tricks like 'turn around' and 'fly to me on call'. I also found out that she didn't like the treats enough to be enticing to her at first, so now we train with peanut butter on a spoon : one click, one lick 😋
@OnPlanet._Mars5 ай бұрын
@@Emilie97948 your clearly a very good bird owner I inspire to be like you when I get a bird
@Emilie979485 ай бұрын
@@OnPlanet._Mars mine's 5 y/o from a ethical breader, I did a lot of reasearch to find such place and ended up driving 2 hours to get her. Hand fed, wings never clipped, the breader gave us a care package, dna test and a bit of food when we left, she clearly care a lot about her birds.💞 Unfortunately, it's not often the case at pet stores... Had to learn the hard way. Bought a conure at a store before that, and he ended up passing away a week after (I thought that being calm was just his personnality - but he was already sick, they are really good at hiding it when they are unwell, especially if you can't compare with their "normal" self) - long story short, I only got heart broken and left with a hefty bill from the vet. Never again getting a pet from a store, but that's just me, they do need a loving forever home too! Rescue can also be a good option, but they often need a lot more patience and it can be challenging at first, i applaud those who do it. Adopting a bird is a big commitment, but seeing a you are here doing your reasearches, It seems like you are already on the right track 😊 Good luck with you future feathery friend!

So far they just know stepping up, and giving kisses (on my nose), taking kisses (on the top of their head). I think i've just been more busy with un teaching Buddy's bad behaviors. Time to start working on good new ones :D It was just a huge accomplishment getting him not afraid of spray bottles, and taking a shower for the first time in 6 years. Made a few videos of my birds. Just to busy interacting with them to remember to even record most of the fun things they do!

a week ago I went to a pet store and I just wanted to look at the birds there (cockatiels and budgies) but then a woman came walking down the hall with a BABY (he had all of his feathers tho) green cheek on her shoulder. We went up to her and my mom wanted to ask her some questions about green cheeks (cause I might get one) so she answered all of them. Then we went to the bird section and OMG there was another baby green cheek! It looked like a cinnamon or pineapple turquoise (dont worry I could tell that they were well taken care of, and the one on her shoulder was the pet store's birb) and I literally broke down and cried in the store out of pure love I didn't beg for it but I wish I had gotten it. Then the woman came over to the section and when I saw her again she heard me telling my mom that I wanted to hold it. AND SHE LET ME HOLD IT!!! I had to cover my hand with my sweater because it was afraid of it, but was tame enough to step up. Then I began to give it scritches, and I was surprised when it didn't bite me. My mom who was skeptic and sorta concerned about it biting me as well, fell in love with it. Sorry for making this an entire essay but I just wanted to tell you my AMAZING first experience with a green cheek.
