U sir with privates from danaher or craig/nicky ryan for 5 yrs with the same hours as Chen would not even Medal at ADCC trials. It is pure talent.

Joseph has proved time and time again that he can hang with the elites, even won against Tackett once who's been training since he was a kid. Don't forget that Nicky subbed 8 dudes in a row, then lost on a judges decision against Dorsey in the trial finals, Dorsey didn't score any points on Nicky and didn't pass his guard. Also, a tournament doesn't allow you to study your opponent like Chen did for Dorsey (as he said in the final interview here).

The problem with a scramble is you either win or you lose. Closed guard is safer.
